Prison Link Worker
Brighton Women’s Centre (BWC) is seeking a Prison Link Worker to provide trauma-informed, strengths-based support to women being released from prison, post-prison support and community support. BWC works with women living with multiple disadvantages in the Criminal Justice System, providing support and advice to women on a wide range of issues including domestic and sexual violence, children and families, mental health, drug and alcohol and attitudes thinking and behaviours. We are the MOJ commissioned CRS provider for women in Sussex and work alongside HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) in Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS). We deliver a trauma informed, gender-specific approach to reducing reoffending. Inspire works with women at all stages of the criminal justice system from point of arrest in partnership with Sussex Police as part of an Out Of Court Resolution, and alongside HMPPS supporting women who are at risk of Breaching their community orders, or with community sentencing as part of Licensing agreements and Rehabilitation Activity Requirements (RAR). BWC also supports women at point of release from prison linking them back into the community.
The purpose of the Prison Link Worker role is to provide trauma-informed, strengths-based support in collaboration with women, empowering them to move forward towards their goals. With a focus on accommodation and social inclusion, women in prison will be supported in breaking cycles of trauma, disadvantage, and abuse. By providing 1-1 casework support to a caseload of women referred whilst in custody, the aim of the role is to carry out pre-release planning and support in the community post-release. The Prison Link Worker will occasionally be responsible for some cases referred from the community to support the capacity of the wider team when needed.
The Prison Link Worker’s work will at all times be informed by BWC’s values, policies and procedures.
