Elizabeth Fry Charity operates a Ministry of Justice Approved Premises in Reading, providing a safe, supportive home for up to 24 women as they navigate the criminal justice system.

As a Placement Supervisor, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our residents through one‑to‑one sessions and structured groupwork.
You’ll bring compassion, resilience and a genuine commitment to helping women move forward positively with their lives.
If you have experience within the Criminal Justice System — or a strong understanding of the challenges faced by women in this context — you’ll be able to hit the ground running. What matters most is your ability to lead by example, motivate others, and bring positivity to this varied and rewarding role.
You’ll work closely with a small, dedicated staff team to manage risk effectively while encouraging women to address the difficult areas in their lives and build towards a more stable future.
Working Pattern (Part‑Time, 30 hours per week):
- Monday: 10am–5pm
- Thursday: 10am–5pm
- Friday: 10am–9pm
- Saturday: 8:30am–3:30pm

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Delivery of Services and Standards
Contribute to the induction of new residents.
Plan and deliver a programme of Rehabilitative Activities for residents, in line with the individual needs of the resident group.
Plan and deliver an off premises voluntary project for residents, through liaison with partner agencies.
Deliver one-to-one weekly keywork sessions with residents.
Complete appropriate assessments with residents at the required timescales.
Support residents to access a range of other services, through appropriate referrals and signposting to external agencies.
Support residents to prepare and plan for moving from Elizabeth Fry.
Engage with residents in a fair and consistent manner, using motivational methods that promote the desired outcomes of compliance and rehabilitation.
Contribute to the enforcement of non-compliance with the Approved Premises programme, Approved Premises rules, licence and/or bail conditions.
Contribute to the management of risk of re-offending and serious harm, through the monitoring of residents and liaison with other agencies, e.g. Probation Service, Police and Social Services.
Attend Multi-Agency Public Protection meetings for residents and provide information on their placement at Elizabeth Fry.
To provide reports on residents, for Court, Probation or other agencies, as required.
Supervise residents’ consumption of medication, through the completion of ‘Medication in Possession’ assessments and liaison with relevant health professionals.
Undertake drug and alcohol tests on residents, as required.
Monitor the risk residents pose to themselves, through appropriate self-harm procedures.
Undertake room searches, as required.
Work as an effective member of the Elizabeth Fry Charity team, in accordance with agreed requirements and objectives.
Provide support/cover for the Resettlement and Support Officer team, as required.
Management of Physical and Financial Resources
Physical Resources
Ensure that any health and safety and/or building maintenance issues are reported to the relevant Manager.
Follow all health and safety, fire and security procedures.
Undertake risk assessments on any activities or projects the postholder is responsible for.
Financial Resources
In conjunction with other staff, monitor and collect residents’ maintenance charge contributions and other minor cash transactions.
Management of Systems and Information
Maintain accurate and timely records, using the appropriate case management, assessments and local systems.
Maintain residents’ individual files to the required standards.
Make records available for inspection and/or monitoring, as required.
General
Contribute to the induction of new staff.
Undertake training, as required.
Comply with all of Elizabeth Fry Charity policies and expectations.
Actively engage in handovers, team meetings, practice development meetings, appraisal and supervision meeting and contribute to the business plan.
Undertake any other duties requested of you by to ensure the Approved Premises is able to function as required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with great attention to detail.
Confidence in using IT systems, including excel and word. Excellent time management skills.
| Experience of working with a wide variety of people who have experienced a range of social/personal difficulties. Knowledge and understanding of the work of the Probation Service and the assessment and management of risk. An understanding of the challenges facing women who are involved in the criminal justice system.
Experience of delivering rehabilitative support on a 1:1 basis and/or within a group setting.
