Peer Mentor - Surrey Probation Offices (Lived Experience)
Use your lived experience to inspire change!
Become a Peer Mentor supporting People on Probation to build confidence and brighter futures.
We are currently recruiting Peer Mentors (Lived Experience Role)
Have you overcome challenges in life and want to use your experience to inspire others? We’re recruiting Peer Mentors with lived experience to support people on probation in the community or preparing for release from prison.
Your lived experience could include (but isn’t limited to)
- The Criminal Justice System (personally or through family)
- Mental health challenges
- Addiction or recovery journeys
- Supporting loved ones affected by these issues
Our Peer Mentors enhance the care offered by our Practitioners. This is achieved, but not limited to the following tasks:
- Attending appointments with SUs
- Support/ advocacy in the community, supporting those at risk of disengaging
- Coaching/ mentoring for SUs who lack motivation/ self-belief
- Using SUs’ release plan to inform engagement with positive activities and reduce contact with negative peer groups
- Empowering SUs to access activities to aid social integration/ interest development by identifying SU likes/dislikes, matching them to activities and, if required, attending activities with the SU, e.g. going to gym, attending places of worship
Connection is really important in Forward, so attending our Peer Support groups to shadow or take part with our Service Users is an invaluable aspect of Intervention Offer.
