Clinks provided further feedback to Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) on the development of a revised set of Expectations for Women, the criteria used to conduct inspections of women’s prisons.

Our response focusses on the health inequalities faced by a large group of people in the criminal justice system, the link between poor health and coming into contact with the criminal justice system, and how prevention is of central importance to address the health inequalities they face.

The response shows that there is both a clear lack of appropriate accommodation for people in the criminal justice system and many significant practical barriers in the way of people trying to access what is available.

Our response is based on evidence from our existing research and draws on our ongoing work and engagement with the voluntary sector about emerging issues and key challenges facing criminal justice. 

Our response draws on evidence from our work supporting voluntary sector organisations working with people in prison, alongside evidence gathered from voluntary sector organisations working in Welsh prisons, consulted with specifically for this submission.
