CLINKS BLOG: what does good rehabilitation look like?
Lesley Frazer, Clinks' Strategic Development Manager asks what does good rehabilitation look like in her latest blog post. Lesley says: "This is not fundamentally an argument about which sector should come out on top in Contract Package Area competitions. It is and should be about what ‘good’ rehabilitation looks like, and how that understanding can be embedded in the reforms, in contract specifications, in supply chains, and in service delivery itself, irrespective of which agency is the lead provider." Read Lesley's blog and respond to her questions here
CLINKS RESPONSE: to equalities questionnaire
Following the Transforming Rehabilitation consultation, the Ministry of Justice launched an online questionnaire to engage with organisations who work with minority groups of offenders with protected characteristics to inform round-table discussions and/or stakeholder meetings. Clinks' response focuses on service users from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, age, and disability as consultation relating to women offenders is taking place separately. You can read our response here. Please contact Clare.hayes@clinks.org with any comments or feedback!

CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: a 21st Century system
Justice Minister Damian Green announced last week that the Government will be investing £160 million for our courts to improve the service for victims and witnesses, as part of a wide-ranging action plan: 'Transforming the Criminal Justice System'. This aims to build on progress already made and help to bring an end to an outdated paper-based Criminal Justice System. Read the full press release here
COMMISSIONING: speech, language and communication research project
Youth Justice Board Cymru has advertised an invitation to tender for a project to examine speech, language and communications delivery in Wales. The aim of the project is to examine how young people throughout the youth justice system who have speech, language and communication issues receive services to meet these specific needs. YJB Cymru would like to use this information as a means to improve the way that young people in the youth justice system will receive these services in the future. It will also provide a basis from which the YJB can work with the Welsh Government to define a joint approach to speech, language and communication needs for the youth justice system in Wales. The closing date for tender submissions is the 12th July and interested potential suppliers can access the project specification by registering on the Home Office Police ICT Directorate e-sourcing Portal here

CLINKS MEMBER'S EVENT: showcasing offender employment skills
Rideout is holding an Open Showcase on Talent 4 [19th July, Stoke on Trent, free]. Talent 4 is an innovative programme that helps offenders and others identify their natural and acquired skills. The programme is a new approach to helping with vocational self-determination. It was developed as a response to the experience that the Rideout team had whilst working in prison, constantly finding that individuals had no idea what they could do for employment upon release. It’s a three-day programme that is now being exported to six European countries although it’s relatively unknown in the UK. To attend, email admin@rideout.org.uk
