Join ClinksRECOOP promotes the care, resettlement and rehabilitation of older offenders and ex-offenders, in particular but not exclusively through the provision of support, advocacy, mentoring and advice on finance, housing and health that will enable them to take control of their lives and remain free from offending and prevent them from becoming socially excluded. We offer consultancy, training and direct services aimed at supporting prisons, probation staff and other organisations, including third-sector organisations, to build the range, capacity and skills necessary to meet the needs of older offenders in custody and through the resettlement transition. A number of our services are available through the Prison Education Framework Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS). These include our day centre and buddy support management and training services, in-cell distraction packs and our older ‘Transition’ resettlement course.

Supporting information
RECOOP’s mission is to help and promote the care, resettlement and rehabilitation of older individuals with convictions. RECOOP aspires to be the leader in the delivery of knowledge and expertise to older people who come in contact with the CJ system, supporters and the staff who work with them. We will continue to use the views of the people we work with to influence and direct the services that should be delivered.
RECOOP has been pioneering new, effective ways to support this group. We are gaining increasing national recognition for our work and have contributed to seminal policy documents, most recently HMPPS’s Model for Operational Delivery (Older Prisoners).
We are one of very few organisations working specifically to support the needs of this population. Our
services have been recognised as good practice by HMIP, IMBs (Independent Monitoring Boards) and
HMPPS. Our peer support Buddy Prison Service recently won an award at the National Social Worker of the Year awards 2019.
