If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu. With new leadership about to take No 10, that’s the choice facing the voluntary/impact sector right now.

Clinks is looking for a confident, experienced leader from the voluntary/voluntary sector to take the RR3 seat for organisations led by and built for racially minoritised people in the criminal justice system, and to help shape the new BGM collective forming through the Clinks/BM4C partnership.

This is not an entry point. You’ll sit opposite the Ministry of Justice and HM Prison and Probation Service, and join the HMPPS Professional Standards External Advisory Board, carrying the weight of that representation in the room. Seniority here isn’t about title. Whether you run a national organisation or you’re the one person holding a small frontline service together, what matters is that you carry real authority, accountability for the work and seniority within your organisation irrespective of the organisation’s size, your ability to think and communicate at a strategic level is what matters.

You’ll know what it costs to deliver for racially minoritised people inside a system that wasn’t built with them in mind, and you’ll know how to say so clearly to people with the power to change it. The role calls for both: the strategic fluency to hold your own with senior officials, and the grounded, first-hand understanding of what the system actually does to the people it touches. You’ll work with Black Men 4 Change and Clinks but ultimately you will represent the emerging race collective, feeding insight in and carrying decisions back to a wider network of by and for organisations across the sector.

This is unpaid, but it is influential. It’s a platform and a responsibility, and a chance to put real weight behind an voluntary sector too often asked for its experience and rarely given its authority.
