Call for roundtable participants

Review into handling of prison capacity

We are looking for voluntary sector organisations to contribute to three roundtables that we will be facilitating as part of the review into the handling of prison capacity.

The review will be led by Dame Anne Owers, and will ‘consider the available data and intelligence’ to:

Consider the reasons prison supply and demand did not meet
Make recommendations that may help future governments avoid the cycle of repeated prison capacity crises.

Voluntary sector roundtables

These roundtables are being convened in order to gain the voluntary sector’s perspective on the impact of the prison capacity on:

Prison regimes, including on the ability of prisons and voluntary organisations to deliver interventions
People in prison being able to access interventions, alongside voluntary organisations being able to access people in prison.

There will be three roundtables (all held online), focusing on:

Monday 24 March, 11:00–12:30: the front end of the system – attended by organisations working with people on remand and in reception prisons, with a specific focus on induction
Tuesday 1 April, 11:00–12:30: prisons holding people on long-sentences – attended by organisations working with people on long-sentences, including young adults and older people on long sentences
Friday 4 April, 11:00–12:30: resettlement/training prisons – organisations working in the pre-release and resettlement space.

The roundtables will be facilitated by Dame Anne Owers, her dedicated secretariat team, and Clinks and attended by a range of voluntary organisations working across the areas set out above. The secretariat team will write up information gathered across the roundtables.

We will be capping attendance at 10 organisations per roundtable, and organisations will only be able to choose one of the three sessions.
