Clinks events and training
March 2024
Clinks run events and training for voluntary organisations working in the criminal justice system. We hear time and time again that organisations feel stronger alongside others and enjoy being part of a well-connected network.
If you have any ideas of events and training that would benefit you / your organisation, please contact us at events@clinks.org
Come to one of our upcoming events to stay connected, learn something new and work together for a better criminal justice system.
Best practice in working with people with mental health problems on probation: what the evidence tells us
14:00, 4 March | online | free
Professor Charlie Brooker; honorary professor at Royal Holloway, University of London, and Dr Coral Sirdifield; Senior Research Associate at the University of Lincoln, will discuss the latest evidence around best practice when working with people with mental health problems on probation.
This event is part of our “A matter of fact: what the evidence tells us” series to accompany our Evidence Library. The event will allow you to ask your questions of leading academics talking about the latest research on an important criminal justice topic.

Working and volunteering in prison training
10:00, 5 March | online | from £95
Are you new to working or volunteering in prisons? Do you have volunteers or staff members who want to increase their understanding of the prison system?
Working or volunteering in a prison can be quite daunting due to the many complexities associated with its unique environment, and establishing the voluntary sector's role within that can be challenging.
Join us at this three-hour training session for voluntary sector staff and volunteers. We aim to raise awareness of the prison environment and provide information on critical aspects such as staffing structures and departments, prison procedures and current challenges associated with working in prisons. Navigating the criminal justice system workshop
10:00, 14 March | online | from £75
Are you new to working or volunteering in the criminal justice system? Do you have volunteers or staff members who want to increase their understanding of the criminal justice system?
The criminal justice system can be quite daunting to understand because of its size and complexity.
Join us for a three-hour workshop for voluntary sector staff and volunteers. In the workshop, we will aim to increase understanding of the prison environment and provide the opportunity to explore and discuss how the criminal justice system is organised, its complexities, and how it works. Families network forum
13:30, 18 March | online | free
Clinks has recently established a network for voluntary organisations that support families delivering services in prisons and the community. We aim to give a collective voice to organisations that support the families of people in the criminal justice system and help to strengthen the evidence base for investing in good quality family support.
This event will examine who takes responsibility for children maintaining relationships when a parent is involved in the criminal justice system. His Majesty Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) currently funds some family and significant other contracts. Still, resources are not adequate to maintain relationships when a parent is involved in the criminal justice system. This event aims to discuss which other statutory services should be involved and develop an action plan for influencing their work. Book your place here
Women's network forum
10:00, 19 March | online | free
Our quarterly Women's networking forums, hosted in partnership with Agenda, provide support, information and networking opportunities to those working with women in contact with the criminal justice system.
They also provide policy and member activity updates and host speakers on relevant topics. The forums offer an opportunity to gather feedback and key issues raised by organisations working with women in contact with the criminal justice system, enabling Clinks to reflect these to the national government at Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3) meetings.
We will also get a policy update from Clinks and Agenda, and there will be an opportunity for members to give feedback on issues the women they work with are facing. Come to the women's network forum to learn more about creating change for women. Book your place here
London criminal justice forum
13:00, 21 March | online | free
This forum aims to bring together partners working across the criminal justice system. These forums occur three times per year to provide opportunities for people working in the criminal justice system in London to discuss policies and practices affecting their day-to-day work.
The forums also provide the space to network with other organisations, discuss opportunities for joint working and offer each other peer support. It is also an opportunity for Clinks' members and partners to showcase their work. Book your place here
Anne Peaker Lecture 2024: Inspiring Futures
16:00, 26 March | online | free
In 2020, the National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance (NCJAA) embarked on an ambitious research project investigating the impact and meaning of arts projects in the criminal justice system. This project was in collaboration with Cambridge University's Institute of Criminology and eight arts partners. Through a ground-breaking artistic programme in prisons and the community, with embedded participative research, the program addressed how arts interventions impact the lives of people in the criminal justice system and how to optimise their effect.
In this year's Anne Peaker lecture, we will publicly share the findings of the Inspiring Futures research project for the first time. Keynote speaker Dr Caroline Lanskey will take the audience through the report, and a panel of key stakeholders will share their thoughts on the findings.
We will, as always, be joined by member organisations, the people they support and individual artists as they share performances and arts created in, or inspired by, criminal justice. Book your place here
