Clinks events and training
February 2024
Clinks runs events and training for voluntary organisations working in the criminal justice system. We hear time and time again that organisations feel stronger alongside others and enjoy being part of a well-connected network.
If you have any ideas of events and training that would benefit you / your organisation, please do contact us at events@clinks.org
Come along to one of our upcoming events to stay connected, learn something new and work together for a better criminal justice system.
Building a resilient workforce – lessons learnt
10:00, 20 February | online | free
At Clinks we have heard consistent feedback from our members about ongoing recruitment challenges within the voluntary sector and how difficult it is to retain skilled and experienced staff.
Last year the Clinks member advisory forum agreed that the voluntary sector workforce would be one of the priority areas of focus for our support, which has led to a sub-group of forum members coming together to co-facilitate this event. We want to emphasise the importance of prioritising wellbeing within the workplace, share examples of good practice and discuss what lessons have been learnt over the years.
Join us to hear from Matina Marougka, Head of Regional Operations for London services at Together for Mental Wellbeing, who will be sharing some of her findings and insights from her studies in Occupational Psychology, reflecting on how wellbeing drives performance in the workplace. Dawn Harrison, Criminal Justice Service Manager at Changing Lives, will be discussing how to build resilience within a team alongside building your own personal resilience.
We will also hear from John Speyer, Director at Hear Me Out, who will be exploring the challenges associated with wellbeing in an organisation, and the event will end with an optional networking space led by Lucy Ball, CEO at New Bridge Foundation, where attendees can reflect on their learnings from the event and share their own best practice. Why gender matters in the criminal justice system – 2-part workshop
10:00, 26 & 27 February | online | from £95
Is your organisation part of the Clinks Women’s Network? Do you have frontline staff or volunteers who are new to working or volunteering in your organisation and want to increase their understanding of why gender matters for women in the criminal justice system? If so, join us for this two-part entry-level workshop.
The workshop aims to:
- develop understanding of women’s gendered experience of the criminal justice system and raise awareness of ‘a whole system approach’.
Please note: this is not a skills-based course but develops knowledge. Topics covered: policy context; whole system approach; prevention and diversion; community supervision; custody; and resettlement.
It will be delivered online across two sessions on two consecutive days (Part One over 2 hours, Part Two over 3 hours) and uses a range of learning methods, some interactive. Book your place here
NCJAA Writing Development Workshop: Writing funding applications (Part 1)
10:00, 27 February | online | free
This year the National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance (NCJAA) will be working in partnership with the Royal Literary Fund to deliver free writing development training for individuals and organisations delivering arts-based services and projects in the criminal justice system.
Writing grant applications and funding bids is challenging and time consuming. This online training programme will guide you through the process of project planning while helping you to understand the key principles of writing applications and avoiding commonly made mistakes.

- How to understand what funders want
- Interpreting funding criteria
- Clarifying your objectives and outcomes
- Developing a structured approach to planning, writing and editing a funding application.
These workshops are suitable for delegates with little to no experience of writing funding applications. Book your place here
