CLINKS NEWS: HMPPS Regional Third Sector Stakeholder Events
Join Clinks and HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) Third Sector Partnerships and Programmes Team to gather feedback on the organisation-wide Third Sector Partnership Approach at a series of free events [Exeter, 10 May; Cardiff, 23 May; Birmingham, 6 June; Manchester, 22nd June; Newcastle, 6 July]. The Third Sector Partnership Approach provides a guiding set of principles to strengthen and maximise Ministry of Justice and HMPPS engagement with the Third Sector to highlight and raise the profile of the valuable services the Third Sector provides across England and Wales. These events will also provide an opportunity to engage with regional HMPPS colleagues, and hear about the upcoming Innovation Grants programme. Book your place here.
CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: funded pre-employment construction training
RIFT Social Enterprise has joined forces with The Skills Centre, one of the UK’s most successful construction training providers, to offer access to funded pre-employment construction training to those in prison, or under the supervision of the Probation Service, who are hoping to work in construction.
RIFT Social Enterprise will deliver bespoke self-employment courses as part of The Skills Centre’s Pre-employment Construction Training programme, a vital component of any training package for people who aim to work in the construction industry. The focus will be on introducing the course across the London prisons and will then look to roll out the programme across the prison estate from next year. Find out more here.
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: new podcast: Behind closed doors - is justice 'seen to be done'?
In this episode, Transform Justice asks how transparent justice processes are in two courts - the Court of Protection and the Family Court. Hosts Rob and Penelope are joined by Sanchia Berg, BBC radio correspondent, and Celia Kitzinger, co-director of the Open Justice Court of Protection Project to discuss if and why some cases need to be shielded from public observation, barriers to accessing court hearings, and what could be improved to ensure that justice truly is not just done but 'seen to be done'. Listen here.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: data launch from nearly 100,000 prisoner surveys
HM Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) would like to invite you this event [25 May, 14:00 – 17:00, Senate House in London and online] to launch the publication of the data from nearly 100,000 prisoner surveys collected by HMIP over the last twenty years. The event marks the end of their Economic and Social Research Council project: Secondary analysis of data collected over a 20-year period by HM Inspectorate of Prisons, and will offer a unique opportunity to gain insights into the content, extent, and quality of this ground-breaking resource for researchers, policy makers, and practitioners.
Charlie Taylor, the current chief inspector, is keynote speaker, and HMIP is looking forward to providing more insights into the quality and extent of the data, as well as how to access it. Please refer to this poster for more information and register for the event here. HMIP kindly request that those who wish to attend in person sign up by [11 May].
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: Life after care and new belongings
The Academy for Social Justice, by HM Prison and Probation Service, invite you to join their seminar: 'Life After Care and New Belongings' [8 June, online, free], and hear speakers from Coram Voice and Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council as they share how local authorities have worked with young care leavers to co-produce solutions to difficulties faced when leaving care. Book your place here.
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: Conversations on self-forgiveness
The Forgiveness Project is launching 'Conversations on self-forgiveness' [various dates starting 11 May, £8]. This is a new series exploring the uncomfortable questions, complexities and ambiguities that make self-forgiveness so very hard. Find out more and book your places here.
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: racial injustice expert seminar
Racial justice will be the first thematic focus by the Alliance for Youth Justice (AYJ) forming part of the Young People in Transition in the Criminal Justice System project. The AYJ will be holding an expert seminar [7 June, 14:00 – 17:00, London and online] with practitioners and policy professionals to examine the experiences of racially minoritised young people transitioning into adulthood while in contact with the justice system, and develop recommendations for policymakers. The AYJ is particularly interested in exploring the role of the specialist voluntary and community sector in supporting racially minoritised young people in the justice system, and is looking to gain insight from a range of experts. Please email mia.edwards@ayj.org.uk if you would like to know more or attend.
