CLINKS NEWS: response to delayed budget confirmation
Clinks provides an update for the sector in response to the delayed Ministry of Justice (MoJ) budget confirmation and details our approach in this blog. Clinks received feedback from members in our regular forums, alongside concern from the wider criminal justice voluntary sector, regarding clarity on funding decisions from the Ministry of Justice and HMPPS.
We asked HMPPS for an explanation and we asked to explore what actions could be taken. Read the blog to find out more and read the letter of response from Amy Rees, Chief Executive HMPPS.
CLINKS NEWS: recruiting a prison specialist to influence and advise government
Clinks are seeking a senior leader from the criminal justice voluntary sector to join an influential advisory group to government. We are looking for an individual with expertise and knowledge of prisons, this could be in service delivery, advocacy, advice and guidance or other areas related to supporting people in prison. The Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3) works closely with senior officials in the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and HM Prisons and Probation Service (HMPPS) to reduce reoffending and to build a more effective partnership between government and the voluntary sector. The deadline for the role is Wednesday 19 April, 10am. Find more information here

CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: the experiences of black prison staff and black prisoners
Following the publication of His Majesty's Inspectorate of Probation (HMIP) Thematic Review on the experiences of adult Black male prisoners and Black prison staff, His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service’s (HMPPS) response has been published on the Justice Inspectorate’s website.
The response sets out HMPPS’s long-term approach to combating racism and discrimination with short, medium, and long-term actions. This includes working closely with third sector partners, trade unions and the HMPPS staff networks which focus on Black and other underrepresented staffing groups. Read the response from HMPPS here
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: Regional Third Sector Stakeholder events
The HMPPS Third Sector Partnerships and Programmes Team, in partnership with Clinks, is planning a series of events to gather feedback on the organisation-wide Third Sector Partnership Approach. Join Prison Advice and Care Trust (Pact) for the Sir Harold Hood Memorial Lecture 2023 [24 May; Maria Fidelis Catholic School, London; suggested donation of £25 per ticket].
The lecture is held annually to celebrate the life and memory of Harold Hood, a generous philanthropist with a keen interest in prison reform. It considers the intersection of faith and criminal justice. Find out more about the speakers and book your tickets here
