CLINKS NEWS: Stronger Voice - Communications Coffee Morning
Join us for an informal communications session [14 March, 10:00 – 11:30, online, free] to talk all things organisational messaging. The coffee morning will be led by Liz Kearsley, a communications specialist who works with organisations to improve language, messaging and brand. We will also hear from Helen Rowlands from the Margaret Carey Foundation, who has 20 years’ experience in the charity sector working in a variety of roles, covering volunteer management, income generation and project management for large national charities as well as smaller regional and local charities. CLINKS NEWS: North of England criminal justice forum
At this event [14 March, 14:00 – 15:30, online, free] we will be joined by The Reader, who will share information about the impact of Shared Reading in Psychologically Informed Planned Environments (PIPES) in prisons and probation settings. This criminal justice forum has been organised to bring together partners working across the criminal justice system in the North of England. The forum will provide an opportunity for people to hear about current and future developments and discuss policy and practice affecting their day-to-day work. Book here.
CLINKS NEWS: Working and volunteering in prisons training
Join us at this three-hour training session [16 March, 10:00 – 13:00, online, £50] for voluntary sector staff and volunteers in which we aim to raise awareness of the prison environment and provide information on key aspects such as staffing structures and departments, prison procedures and current challenges associated with working in prisons. X-Ceed Transition’s key purpose is to benefit the public, their primary field of work being resettlement. Their core aims are to be the bridge for change, where possible, by providing a service which will achieve the prevention or relief of poverty, the advancement of education and the relief of those in need by reason of financial hardship or other disadvantages. NATIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE ARTS ALLIANCE NEWS: Inspire festival of arts – event programme announced
The National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance (NCJAA) presents Inspire: Sustainability in the arts and criminal justice sector [21 March, 9:30-17:30, variable pricing - see below, Rich Mix, London], featuring a showcase of the Inspiring Futures project and a gathering of network members at Rich Mix, London.
We are excited to have announced our programme of performances, workshops, panel debates and networking. The afternoon participatory workshops are themed around sustainability from an environmental perspective to one considering workforce wellbeing. The event will bring together our network of sector specialists and stakeholders to share and reflect on the impact and future sustainability of delivering arts in criminal justice settings.

CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: distraction packs for people in secure settings
Recoop have developed Food for Thought, their monthly distraction packs which are used not only in prison but also in courts, police custody suites and are reaching prisoners abroad. Purposeful activity is incredibly important in prisons, especially for the older cohort, who may be limited in the choice and availability of age-appropriate activities. Find out more here.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: CFO Evolution industry days
Following the market engagement events held in 2022, CFO Evolution will be holding a number of industry days to provide an update on the various aspects of the CFO Evolution programme and provide potential providers an opportunity to network with other sector providers. The first of these will be on [17 March, 10:00 – 15:00, online]. The CFO Evolution programme will build on the successes of the CFO3 and CFO Activity Hub programmes to create a single delivery programme which will complement existing HMPPS core services and provide resettlement support to individuals in custody and the community. CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: virtual visit to Parliament
HMPPS Insights presents: ‘Virtual visit to Parliament - Oral Justice Questions’ [28 March, 11:00 – 13:00, online, free]. Join this online event and activate the connection in your mind between the will of parliament and the tasks they carry out every day. You can witness for yourself Oral Justice Questions in the House where ministers are held to account. You will be expertly guided through all the jargon and procedures by Maureen Easton, from the HM Prison and Probation Service Briefing and Correspondence Team.
Maureen will take you through a fascinating presentation and then patch you directly in to the chamber to see the Ministers and Opposition spokespeople in action as they debate the current and future shape of the criminal justice system in our country. PUBLICATION: multiple disadvantage – NECG strategic priorities
The National Experts Citizens Group (NECG) is excited to unveil its new strategic priorities for 2023-2025, which have been co-produced with people who have lived experience of multiple disadvantage and identify key challenges and areas of focus to make this vision for a better system a reality. The report has been published by Revolving Doors who help coordinate and support the NECG.
The NECG is the representative group for people facing multiple disadvantage. Their aim is to ensure that people in facing multiple disadvantage are able to shape the services that affect them through co-production, making them more accessible and effective. Their belief is that in partnership with decision-makers, services and frontline organisations, they can create a better system. Read the report here.

Prisoners’ Advice Service (PAS) are looking to recruit a Fundraising and Communications Officer [£34,641, part time, London]. Working alongside the Head of Fundraising and Communications, you will be responsible for generating much of PAS’ income from a mix of trusts and foundations, wealthy individuals, corporate law firms and fundraising events. You will be responsible for working with project staff to develop tailored and persuasive applications, communicating their work to both cold and warm prospects. To succeed in this role, you should demonstrate excellent written and communication skills.
