Clinks events and training
December 2022
Clinks runs events and training for voluntary organisations working in the criminal justice system. We hear time and time again that organisations feel stronger alongside others and enjoy being a part of a well-connected network. Come along to one of our upcoming events to stay connected, learn something new and work together for a better criminal justice system.
Maternal imprisonment: what the evidence tells us
10am, 01 December | online | free
This is the sixth in our “A matter of fact: what the evidence tells us” series, which accompanies our Evidence Library, giving you the chance to ask your own questions to leading academics talking about the latest research on an important criminal justice topic. Dr Lucy Baldwin, associate professor at Durham University, will discuss the issue of maternal imprisonment and the impact of this on the children affected, the mothers themselves and the family members who take over childcare responsibilities. Lucy has reviewed the current evidence base, to which she is an important contributor, and covers a number of key issues in a review for our Evidence Library. Book your place here.
London criminal justice forum
10am, 02 December | online | free
The online London criminal justice forum brings together voluntary organisations and stakeholders working across the sector in the Capital. It convenes three times a year, providing an opportunity to discuss sector news, share best practice and network. It is a chance for organisations to showcase their work, with attendees also receiving the latest updates (including commissioning and funding opportunities) from London Probation and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) representatives. Book your place here.
Race and justice network forum
11am, 07 December | online | free
The race and justice network forum meets quarterly to provide organisations in the network with support, information and networking opportunities. They also provide updates on policy, member activity and host speakers on relevant topics. The network will also gather feedback and key issues raised by organisations working with those who are racially minoritised within the criminal justice system, enabling Clinks to reflect these to national government at Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3) meetings. Book your place here.
North of England criminal justice forum
2pm, 13 December | online | free
This criminal justice forum has been organised to bring together partners working across the criminal justice system in the North of England. The forum will provide an opportunity for people to hear about current and future developments and discuss policy and practice affecting their day-to-day work. It will create a space to step away from the day job and provide an opportunity to share good practices, strengthen partnership working, and discuss any opportunities or challenges your organisation may be currently facing. There is also an opportunity for Clinks' members and partners to showcase their work. Book your place here.
Working and volunteering in prisons training
10am, Friday 16 December | online | from £50
Are you new to working or volunteering in prisons? Do you have volunteers or staff members who want to increase their understanding of the prison system? Working or volunteering in a prison can be quite daunting due to the many complexities associated with its unique environment and establishing the role of the voluntary sector within that can be challenging.
Join us at this three-hour training session for voluntary sector staff and volunteers in which we aim to raise awareness of the prison environment and provide information on key aspects such as staffing structures and departments, prison procedures, and current challenges associated with working in prisons. We will explore ways in which voluntary sector staff can have meaningful and professional engagement with prisons operationally, as well as ensuring safety and responsible ways of working are understood and prioritised.
