CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: improving resettlement for people leaving prison
The National Audit Office (NAO) is undertaking a study looking at the government’s approach to improving resettlement for people leaving prison, with a particular focus on adults in England and Wales. The NAO will examine whether the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) have applied learning from previous resettlement delivery arrangements, the government’s early progress in improving resettlement services, and what the government needs to get right to improve resettlement services in the future. As part of this, the NAO are running a stakeholder consultation, where they are inviting responses from organisations who help prison leavers to resettle in England and Wales. The consultation closes on [10 November 2022]. Share your insight here.

FrameWorks is sharing research on how best to make the case for the importance of creating positive bridges from prison [16 November 2022, 11:00 – 12:00, online, free]. In this webinar, you can find out about key recommendations and communications guidance. Join us to learn what the research says and how we can improve our communication around these issues. Reserve your spot here.

Since the introduction of Universal Credit and PIP in 2013 with the objective of simplifying the welfare state, there are still multiple ‘legacy’ benefits that are being claimed by millions of people. This Society Matters CIC short course [1 December 2022: 13:30 - 17:30pm, online, £45.00] provides newcomers to welfare benefits with an overview of 16 welfare benefits that are currently being claimed in the UK. Book here.

Only around 14% of initial Personal Independence Payment (PIP) applications are successful first-time round, and 1 in 4 people with a long-term health condition or disability are believed to give up on their PIP application due to a lack of support or because the application process has made them feel worse. Book here to register your place.
CLINKS MEMBER’S TRAINING: living below the breadline - workshop
Join Society Matters CIC for their workshop on supporting people who are living below the breadline [7 December, 9:00am - 11:00am, online, £45.00]. The concept of poverty is generally understood, but the real-life impact that not being able to make ends meet is having on your employees, your colleagues, your customers and your community is really difficult to fully appreciate if you are fortunate enough to have never walked in those shoes. So, it can be hard to know for sure that your policies, support, and processes are geared to help rather than hinder, no matter how hard you try. Because you simply can’t be expected to know what you don’t know. Register here.

Men in custody without any visitors are disadvantaged, they don’t get to connect with the community outside of the prison walls. Bring only yourself, your conversation and enthusiasm! If you would like to come along and volunteer three hours of your day, it would mean the world to the men.
