CLINKS NEWS: annual conference speakers announced
We are excited to announce our keynote speakers for the Clinks annual conference on [22 November, Drapers’ Hall, London]. In the morning Justin Russell, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Probation and Kilvinder Vigurs, Regional Director for London Probation, will be sharing views on their roles and the value of the voluntary sector to the probation service. In the afternoon Phil Copple, Director General Operations at HMPPS, will be speaking about the ongoing recovery for prisons following the pandemic and future plans for prison regimes. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: Life After Prison podcast
The Prison Radio Association has launched a new podcast called 'Life After Prison'. It features incredible stories and advice for anyone who has spent time in prison or is close to anyone who has. Two new episodes are now online, 'The Sit Down' and 'Getting Out', hosted by presenters Zak and Jules, who have both been to prison. Getting Out is packed with support and advice on the most important issues people face when first released. The Sit Down, is a detailed conversation with those who have been through the prison system. Life After Prison is available on YouTube and all major podcast apps. Listen to the podcast here
FUNDING: Creating Future Opportunities funding
The CFO Evolution programme will build on the successes of the CFO3 and CFO Activity Hub programmes to create a single delivery programme which will complement existing His Majesty's Prison and Probation Services core services and provide resettlement support to individuals in custody and the community. Market Engagement events will be held on [1st November in Manchester and 2nd November in Rugby]. Contract award will be during the fourth quarter of 2023, with contracts mobilising from January 2024 (delivery from April 2024), these dates may be subject to change. CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: overcoming barriers to accessing social welfare advice
This Centre for Justice Innovation event [01 November, online, free] will launch new research that seeks to enhance current understanding of the experiences of people who receive low level sentences, and how advice and support services can best address their needs. This event will be of interest to researchers, policymakers, practitioners and commissioners interested in how to best provide information, advice and support to people who present as low-risk. OPPORTUNITY: University of Cambridge Master’s course
The Institute of Criminology (University of Cambridge) runs a two-year part time Master’s course (MSt) in Applied Criminology, Penology and Management, which is now accepting applications for the Spring 2023 intake. Students generally include practitioners working in public and private prisons, probation services, youth justice, the voluntary sector, the magistracy, and international governmental and non-governmental organisations. The course is designed to be compatible with full time careers in criminal justice, and aims to produce highly informed and research-literate future leaders. It is taught by internationally renowned researchers and guest speakers, with an emphasis on interactive learning.
