Clinks annual conference and AGM 2022

Core Skills in Coaching for Advisors, Mentors and Teachers training

The NCJAA is excited to offer up to six places on the 2022/23 GSMD Core Skills in Coaching for Advisors, Mentors and Teachers training programme at a reduced cost. This course is aimed at people who currently work in the arts as a facilitator, advisor, teacher, mentor or manager and who want to expand their skills and knowledge in coaching and mentoring.

Free Writing development training
Throughout 2022/23 | online | free
The NCJAA’s training programme for individuals and organisations delivering arts-based services and projects in the criminal justice system continues through Autumn/Winter. Delivered in partnership with the Royal Literary Fund, this programme of free, online workshops, will be held throughout 2022/23 to teach vital writing development skills for reports, case studies, and funding applications. The upcoming 'writing case studies' workshop will take place on [24 November] and will be particularly helpful for less experienced writers. Find out more and book here

NCJAA Network member Changing Tunes’ lived experience record label Red Tangent, was featured in The Guardian this month. In the article, three of Red Tangent artists discuss the label’s impact on their post-prison lives. Read the full article here
How Hear Me Out use music to connect with people
Hear Me Out have been involved with the NCJAA since 2011 after they were originally set up in 2006 to honour Helen Tetlow, a teacher, musician and activist who spent her life standing up for refugees. The charity wants to get music-making into detention centres and other accommodations used to house refugees and people seeking asylum, including Napier Barracks. Hedi Mehrez explores the important work that singer and songwriter Lucky Moyo is doing through Hear Me Out projects. Find out more here
Boys, Domestic Abuse and Gang Involvement - Eliciting Men’s Stories Through Music

Koestler Arts marks the 60th anniversary of the Koestler Awards with an ambitious exhibition of art by people in the UK’s criminal justice system, curated by Ai Weiwei. LynchPin Theatre presents the European premiere of Apples in Winter

Miriam’s son committed an horrendous crime. It was violent. It was terrifying. Caught, tried and convicted, he has been sitting on death row for 22 years. In seven hours, the state will execute him. As is the tradition, he is granted a last meal. His request: a slice of his mother’s apple pie. National Criminal Justice Museum exhibition: Young People and Protest

Writing Within Walls Mentoring Programme
Arkbound Foundation’s mentoring programme inspires prisoners and people with convictions to build their confidence and gain access into the publishing industry. Anyone who is currently in prison or on probation within the community and has a passion for writing is eligible to apply to the programme. No previous writing experience is required. Nominations are now open for the Marsh Awards for Excellence in Visual Arts Engagement 2022
The awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of those working in learning, participation, and engagement within visual arts contexts (freelance, salaried or as volunteers) in the UK and internationally. Nominations are invited for individuals, or for teams who have worked together on visual arts engagement projects or programmes in 2021-2022. Find out more and nominate here by Monday 10 October
Ministry of Justice (MoJ) grants for services that support people with shared protected characteristics
The first round of the MoJ’s grant competition was launched on 21 September for organisations delivering services to support racially minoritised people on probation. Grants will be funded through the Probation Service’s Regional Outcomes and Innovation Fund (ROIF) and aim to cover most activities that regions would wish to grant-fund.
