Dear Colleague,
How is the voluntary sector in criminal justice faring in 2022?
There is still time for members of the Race and Justice network, to take this year’s State of the sector survey as we have extended the deadline to Monday 1 August. Do not miss this opportunity to make your voice heard and contribute to a vital source of evidence about the voluntary sector in criminal justice. The survey takes only 15 -20 minutes.
Why it is so important?
The prisons strategy white paper response to consultation did little to recognise or address the clear issues regarding racial discrimination within our justice system. We regularly meet with key decision makers to try to ensure the voluntary sector’s role, knowledge and expertise is reflected in government policy and to maximise opportunities for the sector. We need your views so that we can collectively raise important issues such as racial disproportionality.
We want to hear from our Race and Justice network
Last year the State of the sector 2021 research found 17 respondents said the main stated purpose of their organisation is to provide services for racially minoritised people, or who run a specific service for racially minoritised people as part of their organisation’s broader remit.
For us to be able to voice any of your successes, challenges or concerns and make sure our support is meeting your needs, we need up-to-date evidence on how you are faring. That is why we are asking as many of you as possible to take our short survey.
We want to fully represent the experience of this sector. Let us raise the collective voice of organisations working to support racially minoritised people who are in contact with the justice system, so that we can influence change where it is needed.
How you can take part
If you are from a voluntary sector organisation working with people in contact with the criminal justice system or their families, we want to hear from you so that we can raise the issues that matter most to you and your service users.
Complete our short survey to tell us about your organisation’s criminal justice work - the people you support, your services, staffing and volunteers, commissioning and referrals - for the 2021-2022 financial year.
Help us influence change for the better, respond by Monday 1 August.
