Dear Reader,
How are the arts in criminal justice faring in 2022?
There is still time for you to share your views in this year’s State of the sector survey. Do not miss this opportunity to make your voice heard and contribute to a vital source of evidence about the arts in criminal justice. The survey takes only 15 -20 minutes.
Why it is so important
We regularly meet with key decision makers to try to ensure the voluntary sector’s role, knowledge and expertise is reflected in government policy and to maximise opportunities for the sector. We want to ensure that any distinct challenges or advantages experienced by providers who are working within the arts in criminal justice are shared. Our State of the sector research is vital for us to do this effectively.
We want to hear from members of the Arts Alliance network
We want to fully represent the experience of this sector, the challenges you are facing and your successes. Let us bring together and raise the collective voices of providers of arts-based provision or services, so we can influence change where needs are identified.
The State of the sector survey 2021 identified:
-
Just over a third (34%) of organisations who responded to our survey delivered arts-based provision or services of some kind. The majority of these arts organisations (77%) offered arts as part of a larger portfolio of work. Only a small minority (23%) primarily delivered arts services.
-
The majority of arts organisations receive their income mainly through grants from trusts, foundations or other charitable organisations (53%).
-
Arts organisations were also twice as likely to report that they closed or reduced some services during Covid-19 (29%) than the wider sector (14%).
For us to speak up on your behalf and make sure our support is meeting your needs, we need up-to-date evidence on how you are faring. That is why we are asking as many of you as possible to take our short survey.
How you can take part
If you are an individual arts practitioner or from a voluntary sector organisation working with people in contact with the criminal justice system or their families and provide art-based interventions or services, we want to hear from you so that we can raise the issues that matter most to you and your service users.
Complete our short survey to tell us about you/your organisation’s criminal justice work - the people you support, your services, staffing and volunteers, commissioning and referrals - for the 2021-2022 financial year.
Help us influence change for the better, respond by Monday 1 August.
