CLINCS VACANCY: become a government advisor
Clinks is looking for two people to join an influential government advisory group. We are seeking someone with expertise in working with or in small voluntary organisations (those with an income of around £100k or less per annum) that support people in the criminal justice system, and someone with expertise in delivering services in the criminal justice system in Wales. The Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3) is a group of openly recruited voluntary sector experts that work closely with senior officials in the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) to shape justice approaches, reduce reoffending and to build effective partnerships. The application deadline is 16 May, 9am. Learn more or apply here: Small organisation specialist. Wales specialist.
CLINKS NEWS: stronger Voice: Helping voluntary sector organisations to ‘use their voice’
We’re excited to be launching phase two of the Stronger voice training programme, ‘Using your voice’. This next series of training sessions [26 May – 28 June, online, free] will empower organisations to assertively use the skills and knowledge they have developed, to bring about change. Stronger voice is a three-year project that Clinks is running to help the voluntary sector working in criminal justice develop a unified and influential voice, at both a regional and national level. The project is funded by Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales, as part of its criminal justice grant programme. To learn more or to book one of the free sessions, read the Stronger Voice blog
CLINKS EVENT: working with high-risk individuals and people with sexual convictions
Delivered by Tailored Futures CIC, this workshop [24 May, online, free] will highlight the various struggles that individuals with sexual convictions or people categorised as “high risk” face when they come out of prison and how we can help them to overcome these challenges. It will help professionals, and small organisations, who are new to working with people on probation to build an understanding of the criminal justice system and how to help people on probation with the barriers that they face. Attendees will be presented with various scenarios to work through. Click here to find out more or to register
CLINKS BLOG: feed in your views on probation grants process
HMPPS is consulting on its process for awarding grants for rehabilitative services. Recommendations from Clinks, and Richard Oldfield’s independent review, were to increase the use of grants to support voluntary organisations who already are, or could be, supporting people on probation. Jim Barton, HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) Senior Responsible Officer for the Probation Review programme has written a blog which outlines changes being made to probation commissioning, including the proposed processes for awarding grants and improvements to the Dynamic Framework, in response to feedback from the voluntary sector. Read the blog for links to the proposed process document, sign up for an HMPPS information session, complete the HMPPS survey, and express your interest in a Clinks focus group to share your views. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: commonweal Housing call for new ideas
Commonweal Housing is inviting organisations to come forward with imaginative and original ideas for housing solutions which can address social injustices. The Call for New Ideas (CFNI) has a tight turnaround with applications closing by 9:00, 3 May 2022. As the housing crisis deepens, the already marginalised are often hit the hardest, doubling their disadvantage. Forward-thinking housing projects are needed more than ever. Commonweal is allocating funding for organisations to complete a feasibility study to explore their proposed housing solution. Click here to learn more.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: potential procurement opportunities
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is exploring potential opportunities to provide neurodiversity services under the probation Dynamic Framework in the following regions: North West; North East; Yorkshire & The Humber; South West; West Midlands and South Central. If you/your organisation can offer neurodiversity services in one or more of these regions, and you’re interested in registering/qualifying for the Dynamic Framework, please e-mail a brief summary of the breadth of your services and geographical coverage. This process will help the MoJ to understand the market and which potential suppliers are available. Specific requirements have not yet been set. If the Authority opts to develop these possibilities further, we will send out an invitation to 1-2-1 market engagement sessions. Click here to send an email
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: potential procurement opportunity
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is seeking to re-tender the opportunity to deliver finance, benefit and debt services within the South West probation region. The provision will primarily focus on people on probation in the community who have either a medium or high level of need complexity. There will also be some service provision within six custodial establishments. The contract value is anticipated to be circa £2.5m over a period of up to three and half years. If your organisation can offer finance, benefit and debt services in the South West, please e-mail a brief summary of the breadth of your services and geographical coverage. This process will help the MoJ to understand the market and which potential suppliers are available and will ensure you are included in market engagement activities and future correspondence. CLINKS PARTNER EVENT: supporting smaller organisations to improve their cyber security
For organisations who are interested in improving their cyber security, HMPPS will be holding two cyber-security overview sessions [25 May, online, free]. Sign up here if your annual income is under £100k, or here if your income is over £100k.
