CLINKS EVENT: how voluntary organisations emerged from a year of criminal justice reform and the Covid-19 pandemic
Join us for the launch of our State of the sector 2021 report and a discussion of the distinct challenges we have all faced, as well as the resourcefulness, determination and innovation of the criminal justice voluntary sector to continue to provide vital services while navigating the Covid-19 pandemic [11 April, online, free]. This is the eighth year that Clinks has conducted research into how voluntary organisations in the criminal justice system are faring. The State of the sector 2021 reflects the views of the voluntary sector and provides a comprehensive picture of the 2020/21 financial year. Book your place here
CLINKS VACANCY: Development Officer - London
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Development Officer – London [£32,996, full time, home based] to ensure Clinks provides consistent and effective support to voluntary sector organisations across London. We are seeking a dynamic individual with excellent relationship building skills to work with the criminal justice voluntary sector, identify specific priorities and build the voluntary sector voice to influence key decision makers at a local and national level. Clinks is an equal opportunities employer and actively encourages individuals with direct experience of the criminal justice system and/or with protected characteristics to apply. This post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Clinks recruitment policy is that there is no requirement to disclose any convictions. Find out more and apply by 25 April here
CLINKS NEWS: improving outcomes for women in the criminal justice system
We’ve published our letter in response to the Public Accounts Committee’s call for evidence for the inquiry into improving outcomes for women in the criminal justice system. We highlighted concerns that less than half of the Female Offender Strategy’s commitments have been fully implemented, nearly three years after its publication. We also reiterated concerns about the government’s plan to build an additional 500 women’s prison places. Clinks believes that to achieve the ambitions of the Female Offender Strategy money should be invested in community-based services and diversionary schemes delivered through women-centred and trauma-informed models. We therefore continue to call for the government to provide adequate, sustainable funding to support community-based, specialist women’s services. Read the letter in full here
CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: preventing child sexual abuse
The Lucy Faithfull Foundation has launched the Faithfull Papers, which will share data and insights about how best to prevent child sexual abuse, based on the foundation’s work. Lucy Faithfull Foundation is keen to ensure that practitioners, policy makers, researchers and academics have quick and easy access to data driven analysis about protecting children from sexual harm, and to widen the social conversation about perpetrator-focused child sexual abuse prevention. The first Faithfull Paper is a review of the first 12 months of live chat on the Stop It Now! UK and Ireland helpline. Download it here
CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: women veterans in the criminal justice system
Forward Assist, Salute Her UK and Labour Friends of the Forces are conducting a consultation on UK women veterans’ lived experience of the criminal justice system. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: lived experience and probation
Revolving Doors has published a report following its lived experience inquiry into probation. The inquiry, driven from the start by Revolving Doors’ lived experience membership, brings together evidence from people with lived experience and probation practitioners to set out how the Probation Service can be supported to fulfil its potential. The inquiry covers key findings and recommendations in four key areas: the culture of the probation service, and probation’s role within courts, the community, and prison resettlement. Read it here

Find further information and registration details here
OPPORTUNITY: classifying charities
The Charity Commission is improving the way it asks trustees to ‘classify’ their charities on the online register and is looking for organisations to test their new classification codes and see if the system is user friendly. These are the categories that explain how charities fulfil their purposes, and who they help. The data currently gathered in this area is vague, and more specific information will mean the Commission can provide better and more relevant support. If you would like to take part in ‘user testing’ to help spot problems or gaps in the system, email UserResearchTeam@charitycommission.gov.uk. Find out more here
