CLINKS EVENT: custodial remand
Could you use your expertise to help influence policymaking? We're holding a consultation event with voluntary sector organisations to inform our submission to the Justice Committee’s inquiry on the role of adult custodial remand in the criminal justice system [28 March, online, free]. CLINKS EVENT: tackling double disadvantage
Our next Women’s network meeting will focus on Tackling Double Disadvantage, a 10-point action plan for change, developed by Agenda, Hibiscus Initiatives, Muslim Women in Prison, Zahid Mubarek Trust, Criminal Justice Alliance and Women in Prison, to improve outcomes and reduce inequalities and discrimination against racially minoritised and migrant women in contact with the criminal justice system [29 March, online, free]. Our quarterly women’s network forums, hosted in partnership with Agenda, provide support, information and networking opportunities to those working with women in contact with the criminal justice system. NATIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE ARTS ALLIANCE EVENT: conference 2022
Join us for the National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance (NCJAA) conference 2022: A new way of working – what does building back better look like for the arts in criminal justice? [31 March, online, free]. With a day packed full of workshops, keynote speakers and panel discussions, all are welcome to attend, participate and learn. Members of the NCJAA network - In Focus Education and Development, Niki Gibbs, Odd Arts and It’s Not Your Birthday But… - will be running workshops at the conference. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: parental imprisonment network
Are you a practitioner who supports children impacted by parental imprisonment in their own community? Children Heard and Seen is launching the Parental Imprisonment Practitioner Network (PIPN) to bring together practitioners to share good practice and resources, learn from each other, workshop difficulties and to act as a collective voice. You might be a social worker, teacher, health visitor, community-based family worker or in another role that means you come into contact with children impacted by parental imprisonment. Whatever your role you are invited to join PIPN. Contact practitionersnetwork@childrenheardandseen.co.uk for further details.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: Family and Significant Other Support Services
HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) is running a market engagement event [29 March 10am, online, free] for a grant to provide support to families/significant others of prisoners in England and Wales, with support offered through a helpline and a website. At the event, suppliers can learn more information and ask any questions they may have about the grant. The grant will run from 1 August 2022 to 31 July 2025. The total (indicative) funding per financial year is £110,000 to £130,000. HMPPS plans for the grant to go to tender on 6 April 2022 on the e-sourcing portal Jaggaer. CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: Autism Support Services in the Thames Valley
HMPPS has confirmed its intention to tender for Autism Support Services in the Thames Valley PCC region. If you would be interested in bidding for this, ensure that you have either qualified onto the required Selection Questionnaire (SQ) areas, or have updated your SQ to qualify for this opportunity. You will need to ensure you have added the “Thames Valley” PCC region to your geographical provision area; you must be qualified at the £100k - £1m financial threshold; and you must be qualified onto the DF.07 Emotional Wellbeing category. HMPPS aims to launch the tender process in the next couple of weeks. CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: adult prison education in England
The Ministry of Justice has issued a Prior Information Notice (PIN) containing details of market engagement activity relating to Adult Prison Education Services in all prisons in England. A market engagement launch event will be held via webinar on 26 April 2022. The procurement of these education services will cover the full scope of prison education and all associated services. A procurement process is anticipated to commence in Spring 2023. Suppliers should register on the MoJ Jaggaer procurement portal (details in the PIN) to then register for the market engagement event. FUNDING: Hertfordshire
Grants of up to £5,000 are available from the Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner's Action Fund to local voluntary and community groups, charitable and not-for-profit organisations developing innovative projects to increase community safety in Hertfordshire. The Commissioner particularly welcomes innovative projects proposed through local collaborations and partnerships and which can make a lasting difference to communities in terms of safety. Applications which involve young people, particularly in the design or the delivery of a project, are also encouraged. Find out more and apply by 12 April here
FUNDING: arts, education, health, disadvantage
Grants between £10,000 and £25,000 are available from the Steel Charitable Trust to registered charities in the UK working in the areas of arts and heritage, education, environment, health, or social and economic disadvantage. Applications under the social or economic disadvantage category must have a focus on either disadvantaged children or people experiencing homelessness. Applications under the health category must have a focus on either mental health or healthcare for older people. Find out more and apply by 20 April here
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: brain injury
During this workshop The Disabilities Trust will showcase its Brain Injury Linkworker service and discuss the impact of brain injury on the prison population [11 May, online, free]. The Disabilities Trust will also provide practical advice on how to best support these men and women. There will also be an opportunity to watch the award-winning Invisible Me short film which conveys the experience of brain injury from the perspective of a service user. In 2021 The Disabilities Trust launched its Ask, Understand, Adapt online brain injury training. Research shows that 6/10 people in prison may have experienced a brain injury, illustrating the importance of training in this area. This event is open to staff who work in the criminal justice system only. Book your place here
CLINKS MEMBER’S TRAINING: mental health
This 3-hour online workshop session from Society Matters CIC will help you to build your knowledge and understanding of mental health issues, and offer the opportunity for reflection, discussion and practical implementation of learning and plans of action, in a safe environment [7 April, online, £45]. In particular you will be supported to: increase your knowledge of common mental health conditions; understand the mental health continuum and consider your place on it; be aware of the common causes of mental health issues and learn practical strategies to deal with them; and know when and where to get further support. Brighton Women’s Centre (BWC) is looking for a Therapeutic Services Manager [£34,106 (pro-rata), Brighton, part time]. She will manage the BWC Therapeutic Services which provide one-to-one and group therapeutic interventions for self-identifying women. She will assess and allocate clients, manage referrals and recruit and support a team of honorary therapists. Phoenix Futures is looking for a Recovery Worker [£24,633, London, full time] as part of its Building Futures service. You will have both intervention duties alongside managing your own caseload. You will be providing harm reduction to those with substance misuse issues and supporting their recovery through relapse prevention and care planning. You will also act as an advocate for service users, signposting and referring to the necessary agencies to support them in their recovery holistically. You will have knowledge of recovery, care planning and relapse prevention activities and will have the ability to build and maintain relationships with agencies.
