CLINKS VACANCY: Senior Policy Officer
We have an exciting opportunity to join our very well-respected policy team, within the Influence and Communications Directorate, as Senior Policy Officer [£32,996, full time (fixed term), remote] to support the Influence and Policy Manager in the delivery of Clinks’ core policy functions. You will deliver work across our thematic areas and in response to key policy developments in the criminal justice system. The role takes responsibility for project management of distinct policy projects and with support from the Influence and Policy Manger, coordinates and supervises the work of two Policy Officers. The London Probation Service is holding a voluntary sector engagement event in collaboration with Clinks [8 March, online, free]. This event will be an opportunity to learn about the commissioning model for the newly unified London Probation Service and wider partnership opportunities, as well as to learn more about how Clinks can support you. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: supporting re-integration
If you are a charity, social enterprise or community interest company who supports re-integration in local communities for returning citizens, then the Robin Corbett Award wants to hear from you. If you have a good story to tell about supporting people both inside prison or after release, you stand a chance at winning £5K, £3K or £1K and obtaining national and local publicity which aids future fundraising. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: report from children and young people with experience of the system
The first report from the Young Advocates Project has been published. The project is led by children and young people aged 14–20 who have lived experience of the youth justice system and want to be part of a movement to drive positive change, delivered in partnership by the Alliance for Youth Justice (AYJ) and Leaders Unlocked. The report presents findings and recommendations from engagement with over 120 young people across England and Wales, and focuses on the three priority topics of stereotypes, education and warning signs, and custody. The aim was to identify patterns that run through society, and the education and justice systems overall, to find out what young people feel increases the chance of entering the justice system. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: music with mothers in prison
The 1772 Charity has marked its 250-year anniversary with a £25,000 donation to set up a music programme for mothers in prison and their children. The programme will be established by Changing Tunes, a specialist music-based rehabilitation charity with over 30 years of experience engaging prisoners and ex-prisoners. The project will support the wellbeing of mothers in prison helping strengthen the relationship with their children. The donation will enable Changing Tunes to establish the specialist programme at two women’s prisons, and beyond this, look to tailor the programme to fathers in prison and their children. Cell Workout has teamed up with Next to launch an athleisure collection. Cell Workout was founded by LJ Flanders who, during his time at HMP Pentonville, discovered that a focus on fitness kept him going both physically and mentally. Recognised for his outreach programme and best-selling book, LJ has developed Cell Workout with an enduring ethos of bringing about positive change in the lives of people in prison and those affected by crime. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: new CEO for Hardman Trust
Kerryn Huck has been appointed the new CEO of the Hardman Trust. She will be in her new post from 28 March 2022. Kerryn is currently Director of Operations at the Shannon Trust, delivering its core programmes across the prison estate in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Her previous roles include working with drug, homelessness and youth charities. Ian Wilson, the Hardman Trust’s current Director will continue with the Trust as the Editor of the Hardman Directory. CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: brain injury support South Wales
The Probation Dynamic Framework team is offering one-to-one sessions to discuss a potential opportunity to provide Brain Injury Support Services in the South Wales PCC area. The sessions are available from 8-11 March. To be eligible providers will need to be qualified on the Dynamic Framework and must submit or update their Selection Questionnaire (PQQ_205) to meet the following requirements by 14 March 2022: indicate you can provide services to the South Wales Probation Service PCC; meet the financial health requirements for contracts valued at £100k – 1m+; and qualify onto the Probation DF.07 Emotional Wellbeing service category. CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: in-custody finance, benefit and debt
The Ministry of Justice is looking to procure a national In-custody Finance, Benefit and Debt service that will deliver across several probation regions: East Midlands; West Midlands; Wales; East of England; South Central; London; and Kent, Surrey and Sussex. This will be an in-custody service only and will cover all of these regions (sub-contractors or lead bidding models will be accepted). The Probation Dynamic Framework team is looking to speak to providers that would be interested in discussing this opportunity. FUNDING: rights and justice
Grants are available from the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust - Rights and Justice Programme to support projects aimed at promoting equal treatment of all people. Priorities for this funding are: protection and promotion of human rights and their enforcement in the UK; promoting rights and justice for racially minoritised people who face the most severe forms of racism; and the promotion of rights and justice for refugees and other migrants by identifying and tackling structures and systems that may deny them their rights. FUNDING: rough sleeping
The Voluntary and Community Frontline Sector grant competition is now open for bidders. The competition restructures the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC)’s funding to voluntary and community organisations and sets an ambitious vision for how voluntary sector organisations can contribute to ending rough sleeping. The grant is divided into four lots and represents a potential investment of up to £8m commencing from 1 July 2022 to 31 March 2025. Find out more and apply by 1 April here
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: gambling harm in prisons
GamCare’s Criminal Justice and Gambling Harm Thematic Workshops bring those with lived experience, academic interest and professional experience together to share knowledge and raise awareness for key and emerging issues related to gambling harm within the criminal justice system. This workshop [23 March, online, free] will pose the question, ‘What is needed specifically in prisons to better serve those experiencing gambling harms?’ Workshop participants will hear from a range of current perspectives on the challenges, experiences and current practice in this area, exploring treatment options, development of digital products, support services and training for staff. One Small Thing is holding a workshop to help you understand the Working with Trauma Quality Mark [15 March, 30 March, 26 April, online, free]. FEATURED VACANCY: Fundraising and Communications Officer
Prisoners' Advice Service (PAS) is looking for a Fundraising and Communications Officer [£31,631 (Pro-Rata), London (Farringdon), part time, 3 or 4 days per week]. PAS is a charity providing legal advice and support to adult prisoners across England and Wales. Alongside the Head of Fundraising and Communications, the successful candidate will be responsible for generating much of PAS’s income from a mix of trusts and foundations, wealthy individuals, corporate law firms and fundraising events. They will work with project staff to develop tailored and persuasive applications, communicating PAS’s work to both cold and warm prospects.
