Our criminal justice forums bring together partners working across the criminal justice system to discuss policy and practice affecting their day-to-day work [England, 10am, 18th January | All Wales, 2pm, 18th January, online, free]. This month’s forums will focus on commissioning, and we will be discussing what the future of commissioning in criminal justice looks like, including: future commissioning using the probation dynamic framework; the use of the Regional Outcomes and Innovation Fund (ROIF) within probation regions; and the potential for criminal justice commissioners to use grants. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: making funding work
The Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM) coalition has published a report outlining the way in which national funding streams for homelessness and rough sleeping, substance misuse, mental health and criminal justice, can be better coordinated to achieve long-term changes to the way that services and systems work for people facing multiple disadvantage. The report draws on the experiences of areas across the MEAM Approach and Fulfilling Lives networks, with research conducted alongside experts by experience. MEAM hopes to follow-up this report by engaging with a range of government officials to create a set of policy and practice recommendations that can help funding to have an optimal impact on people facing multiple disadvantage. Clinks is a member of MEAM, alongside Mind, Homeless Link and Collective Voice. Read the report here

CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: race and gender equality in police custody
The Criminal Justice Alliance has published a report exploring the effectiveness of independent custody visitors in monitoring race and gender equality in police custody. The report found some examples of positive work to improve the treatment and welfare of racially minoritised people and women. However, it also found that a number of custody visitors lack understanding of institutional racism and discrimination, and that custody visiting schemes need to be more racially diverse to better reflect the people detained in police custody. The Criminal Justice Alliance also found a range of systemic barriers preventing custody visitors from monitoring race and gender equality effectively. Read the report here
