Supporting the voluntary organisations using arts in the criminal justice system
Clinks annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2021
The Clinks annual report details our achievements and progress towards our goals in the second year of our three year strategy, plus our plans for the future, set out across our five strategic objectives, followed by a financial review.
The profound and unprecedented impact of Covid-19 on everyone working in, and affected by, the criminal justice system, combined with large scale changes in the criminal justice policy and operating environment, has resulted in a particularly trying and turbulent year.
Voluntary organisations and practitioners delivering arts activity have continued to support people in these extraordinary times, their resilience tested to the extreme.
They have had to make difficult choices as they reckoned with the disruptive impact of the pandemic on their services, dramatically increased need among the people they support and significant financial pressure.
We've seen countless examples of the resilience and flexibility in our sector as it has grappled with these challenges.
The National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance embedded in Clinks, working alongside the sector, has continued to support, promote and represent voluntary organisations throughout this extremely challenging time. This report sets out the activities we've undertaken to do just that.
On behalf of voluntary organisations working in the criminal justice system, Clinks' 600+ members and the National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance network, we responded to the impact of Covid-19, the reforms to probation and began working towards our aspiration to make Clinks a truly antiracist organisation.
The National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance pivoted to promoting ongoing arts activities under restricted prison regimes and promoting practical information on how to continue provision of in-cell activities to our network and to HMPPS staff.
