CLINKS EVENT: service user involvement
In this event, we will be discussing the value of having people with lived experience of the criminal justice system in trustee and senior leadership positions [14th July, 10:00-11:30am, online, free (Clinks members only)]. We will also discuss the barriers to achieving this, including Charity Commission rules and guidance for voluntary sector organisations, specifically changes to the rules on recruiting trustees and senior managers with criminal records. This event is for anyone seeking to embed the role of lived experience further into their work and to understand more about involving people with lived experience in strategic leadership and senior management positions. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: coaching prison staff
Spark Inside has published a report evaluating the impact of coaching prison staff during Covid-19. In 2020, when prisons entered a ‘double lockdown’ and only prison staff were able to offer support and care to those living in prison, Spark Inside saw an important opportunity for its life coaches to talk to and work with prison staff who then received over 150 hours of coaching. The vast majority (94%) of staff coached reported making progress in their lives, and some of the key outcomes prison staff experienced include: gaining self-awareness and confidence; improved stress levels and emotional wellbeing; and better interactions with people living in prison, and relationship building with colleagues. Read the report here
CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: supporting women into employment
Employment 4 ALL is now taking referrals and self-referrals for its Woman's Moving On Project. Employment 4 ALL will support female job seekers in Westminster who are on license from prison, or with experience of the criminal justice system, on bail, or likely to offend, to gain employment. Employment 4 ALL will prepare participants for employment, through education, training and soft skills development. The project will help them begin to address the issues they face, improve their lives, reduce the likelihood of reoffending, and combat the social exclusion facing many women in contact with the criminal justice system. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: mental health in prisons podcast
The Centre for Mental Health has released a podcast episode focussed on mental health in prisons, in which host Thea Joshi speaks to Dr Graham Durcan, Associate Director of Research and Evaluation. CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: engaging people on probation
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is launching a Call-Off Competition in August for a national provider of an ‘Engaging People on Probation’ service. The MoJ would like to give all interested providers on the Dynamic Framework the opportunity to speak with the team directly in 1-2-1 sessions which will be held up until 16th July. The team is particularly interested in discussing cost modelling, reporting requirements and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), but welcomes discussion on other topics. If you would like to arrange a session please email ProbationDynamicFramework@justice.gov.uk. If you can’t make a 1-2-1, you can also send in comments using the feedback form on Jaggaer (the MoJ sourcing portal), which is uploaded to PQQ_205 > Call-Off Competition Information > Engaging People on Probation. Access Jaggaer here
