Clinks is seeking a senior leader from a large voluntary organisation to join an influential advisory group to the government. The Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3) is a group of openly-recruited voluntary sector experts that work closely with senior officials in the Ministry of Justice and Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) to reduce reoffending and to build a more effective partnership between the government and the voluntary sector. This vacancy is for a senior manager in an organisation with an income of over £10 million, who has experience and expertise of the commissioning and delivery of public services. The deadline is 10th July 2020. Find more information here

The meeting will be chaired by RR3 Chair Anne Fox and attended by a representative from Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service’s (HMPPS’) CRC contract management group. Places will be allocated by the Chair on 3rd July. We aim to achieve good representation across geography, specialist provision, type of work and size of organisations. Apply for a place via email with your organisation’s name and last year’s annual income, the geographical coverage of your contract(s) or grant(s), the type of service(s) provided and identifying whether you provide any specialist support to specific cohorts of people, as well as any questions you wish to put to the contract management team. CLINKS RESPONSE: the future of mental health care in prison
Clinks has responded to the Centre for Mental Health’s call for evidence for a review to guide the future of mental health care in prison. The response outlines how far mental health support is currently meeting need, examples of good practice, how needs are likely to change in the future and areas for development and improvement. It details the impact that Covid-19 is having on the mental health of people in prison, as well as the ability of voluntary sector organisations delivering mental health services to operate. A key recommendation is for voluntary organisations to be seen as strategic partners that prisons engage with, to ensure that they are able to support service users. This also means supporting organisations’ sustainability during and beyond Covid-19. Read our response here

PUBLICATION: Wales BAME Covid-19 Advisory Group report

It also details experiences of racism from specific BAME groups exacerbated by Covid-19. Recommendations include a substantive and comprehensive Race Equality Strategy for Wales, immediate action to improve the quality of ethnicity data, and monitoring health and social care communication strategies to assess the effectiveness of reducing cultural and language barriers and increasing the uptake of screening and health promotions from BAME people.
