CLINKS NEWS: the state of the sector 2019
We have published The state of the sector 2019, the key trends for voluntary organisations working in the criminal justice system. This is the seventh year that Clinks has conducted our State of the sector research looking at how voluntary organisations working with people in contact with the criminal justice system are faring. The findings give us a lot to celebrate, but the picture we’ve built up over the years shows there are a number of deep-seated and systemic challenges facing organisations. To ensure a vibrant, independent and resilient voluntary sector these need to be addressed. The report includes a section with our key findings about organisations that provide tailored support to women. Read the full report here
CLINKS NEWS: our impact over the past three years
Impact assessment 2019 is a Clinks report on the findings of an external assessment of our impact. Over 120 people fed into the assessment which looks at Clinks’ work from 2016 to 2019. Overall, stakeholders were extremely positive about all of Clinks’ work. The report includes our response to the recommendations, and also provides an update on progress towards meeting the pledges made in our 2016 impact assessment. The assessment was conducted and written by Becky Nixon, Ideas to Impact. Read it here
CLINKS NEWS: annual report and financial statements
Clinks’ trustees present their annual report and the audited financial statements for the year ended 31st March 2019. This report includes: a summary of our future strategy; a report of our achievements and performance against our strategic objectives; a financial review; our plans for the future; information on our structure, governance and management; an independent auditor's report; the financial statements for the year ended 31st March 2019. Read it here
CLINKS BLOG: criminal justice in manifestos
The Liberal Democrats and Labour Party launched their general election manifestos this week and the Conservative Party manifesto is expected in the coming days. As each manifesto is launched Clinks will be analysing and summarising the key commitments of relevance to criminal justice policy and the work of voluntary sector organisations working in criminal justice and publishing this on our blogs page. We hope that this information will be useful to the sector in planning for the potential policies of the future government. Keep an eye on our blogs page for when these will be uploaded.
CLINKS BLOG: IPP prisoners
In this blog Associate Professor Harry Annison and Senior Research Assistant Christina Straub from the University of Southampton discuss their research project in collaboration with Prison Reform Trust on the views of families of people serving Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentences. They consider its final report, particularly the relevant findings for voluntary sector organisations. They found that most of their participants reported making little use of services provided by voluntary sector organisations, preferring to keep a small circle of confidantes and to look to their own family for support. Families saw great value in there being a ‘Families of People Serving IPP’ webpage, i.e. some sort of ‘one stop shop’. Read the blog here
CLINKS NEWS: more to health
Clinks has signed a collective statement with 60 voluntary sector organisations calling for a better debate on health across government parties and departments which is evidence-based and shifts beyond the focus on services, to a broader view of health that encompasses what people need for good, healthy lives. Key asks include: for the government to make health — physical health, mental health and wellbeing — an overarching goal across all ministerial departments; urgent investment that recognises and strengthens community contributions to health, especially through local authorities and the voluntary sector; and to resource social care to be both responsive and preventative to need. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: become a MEAM approach area
The Making Every Adult Matter Coalition (MEAM) is seeking partnerships to join the National Lottery Funded MEAM Approach network for 2020-2022. MEAM supports local areas across the country to develop effective, coordinated approaches to multiple disadvantage that can increase wellbeing, reduce costs to public services and improve people’s lives. It does this using the MEAM Approach, a non-prescriptive framework that partnerships of statutory and voluntary agencies and people with experience of multiple disadvantage can use to design and deliver better coordinated interventions. The MEAM Approach is currently being used in 27 local areas across England. If you are interested in becoming a MEAM Approach area, please contact your local MEAM Partnerships Manager, before completing the Expression of Interest Form. Apply before 5pm 19th February 2020 here
