CLINKS TRAINING: working and volunteering in prisons
Clinks is offering an 'Introduction to working and volunteering in prisons' training course which aims to raise awareness of the prison environment and enable voluntary sector staff and volunteers to have meaningful and professional engagement with prisons, in their shared care of those in custody. CLINKS EVENT: reducing re-offending
Clinks is running 'The role of the voluntary sector and PCCs in reducing re-offending' [5th December (am), Taunton, free for members]. At this event you will hear the latest on Police and Crime Commissioners’ (PCCs) plans on reducing re-offending, possibilities for them to take on responsibility for probation services, and discuss how PCCs and the voluntary sector can work together. You’ll also get all the usual updates on criminal justice developments and networking opportunities from Clinks regional criminal justice forums. For those working in Somerset, there will be an opportunity to explore the potential for a new network for organisations working in criminal justice. Clinks is running this event [5th December (pm), Taunton, from £20] to help you understand what social investment is, and to explore if it could benefit you. CLINKS MEMBER'S TRAINING: self-harm and suicide
EDP Drug and Alcohol Services and HMP Dartmoor are offering a half-day training course [14th December, HMP Dartmoor, free] on managing self-harm and suicidal ideation. The training is run by Bob Stacey, who has many years’ experience working through these issues with prisoners. It is predominantly aimed at those who will be working or volunteering within the prison although it may be of interest to others working with individuals on their journey through the criminal justice system. CLINKS MEMBER'S TRAINING: supporting Gypsy and Traveller communities
Friends, Families and Travellers has a 'Gypsy and Traveller Cultural Awareness Training' course [online, £30]. The course is an online learning programme which targets the key themes and questions arising amongst service providers about Gypsies and Travellers. The course is for anyone wishing to engage or work more effectively with Gypsies and Traveller and includes modules on history and culture, and accessing services. Find out more and book here
CLINKS MEMBER'S EVENT: housing and homelessness conference
Shelter is holding a conference on housing and homelessness [21st November, Plymouth, £30]. The aim of the conference is to bring agencies together again to raise awareness of services and mechanisms in place, to increase knowledge and to improve practice, thereby to support and advise those who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or who are in substandard and poor housing. Speakers and workshops include Shelter, Homeless Link, Plymouth City Council, Crisis, Path, BCHA and Russell James Barrister. Find out more and book here
CLINKS MEMBER'S EVENT: Outside In
EDP Drug and Alcohol Services is running an event called 'Outside In' for prisoners [6th December, HMP Exeter, free] in partnership with HMP Exeter. Organisations that are currently working within the criminal justice system and/or with prison releases are encouraged to attend.
