CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: meditation in prison
The Prison Phoenix Trust has published a book called 'Peace Inside'. It is a series of true stories from prisoners about how meditation changed their lives, and letters between charity workers and prisoners. It includes a simple guide to meditation for beginners and a foreword by poet Benjamin Zephaniah. It’s free to prisoners and staff. Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: homelessness support fund
Homeless Link is launching a £4.5 million Social Investment Fund on 19 June 2017. The programme is funded by Access - The Foundation for Social Investment, through its Growth Fund. The money will be invested over the next three years and will offer homelessness organisations in England unsecured loans between £25,000 and £150,000. The programme aims to test and learn where social investment can be most effectively used alongside other forms of funding to improve outcomes. Homeless Link is looking to support organisations to increase the homelessness sector’s knowledge and experience of social investment, develop new models for income generation and funding and improve their long-term sustainability. CLINKS MEMBER'S EVENT: the future of probation
RISE Mutual and partners are holding the 2nd Annual Probation Practitioner Conference [13th June, Sheffield, from £50]. The event aims to give attendees the opportunity to share lessons learned and to examine how the probation world can go forward. Speakers and workshops will discuss pathways for the future, partnership, communication and integration. They will look at ways in which organisations can engage better with National Probation Service and the Community Rehabilitation Companies. The event will conclude with a lecture by Dame Glenys Stacey, the Chief Inspector of Probation, who will draw on the Inspectorate Reports to suggest how probation can move forward. Find out more here

FUNDING: day to day costs
The Lloyds Bank Foundation is accepting applications for their Invest grant. Invest grants fund core organisational costs related to the day-to-day running of a charity. To apply, an organisation's income must be between £25,000 and £1 million and they have to work with disadvantaged people aged 17+. The deadline for applications is 16th June. Find out more here
FUNDING: greater social impact
Big Potential, a Big Lottery Fund grant fund, will deliver approximately £20m of grant funding over 3 years to voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations with the aim of improving their sustainability, capacity and scale in order that they may deliver greater social impact. Grants are available from £20k up to £150k. The deadline for applications is 11th October. Find out more here
FUNDING: develop your website
The Transform Foundation's 2017 Charity Website Grant Programme has opened its next round of funding. The programme will be providing £18,000 grants to charities to fund the redevelopment of their websites. The fund covers the strategy, design, build, content strategy, training, and launch of a new mobile optimised website, with marketing, fundraising, appeals, social media, e-commerce and website management tools. BLOG: recovery and rehabilitation
Russell Webster summarises a paper addressing substance misuse and offending behaviour together from the team behind the Breaking Free programme. He discusses the paper's suggestion that using digital technologies to deliver interventions can provide opportunities for joined-up care by making interventions available across both prison and community settings, following people on their journey through the criminal justice system. FEATURED VACANCY: Prison Support Manager
The Samaritans are looking for a Prison Support Manager [£36,000, Surrey, full time].The role will lead on the operational delivery of the Listener Scheme and other work in the Prison Support portfolio, all of which is aimed at reducing suicide in one of the most at risk populations. The candidate will be a positive, confident and determined planner and communicator who can take ownership of this role. They’ll be comfortable influencing and liaising with senior stakeholders across the charity and Prisons sector, and understand the importance of these relationships within a partnership structure. FEATURED VACANCY: Project Officer- Prisons
The Samaritans are looking for a Project Officer- Prisons [£28,000 pro rata, Surrey, part time] to support the delivery of a programme of work on a part time basis ensuring a high quality and consistent approach to running Listener Schemes in prisons. The successful candidate will lead on specific projects relating to the development and improvement of the Listener Scheme. The role will lead on the delivery of a range of work to meet project objectives, working with the Prison Support Manager to offer support to the volunteer leadership, manage office processes and provide first line support to internal and external stakeholders.
