The latest news from the South West
Welcome to the Clinks' newsflash for the South West of England, an occasional round up of the latest news, events and opportunities for Light Lunch readers working in the South West. If you’d prefer not to receive South West-specific newsflashes from Clinks, please do let us know. If you have other colleagues who are based in the region who might like to receive these newsflashes, please email Clinks’ South West Development Officer Isabel.livingstone@clinks.org
This edition includes an event and an opportunity on multiple and complex needs, a blog from Devon-based Clinks member EDP and lots of events in the region.
CLINKS EVENT: Everyone’s business: Co-ordinating services for people with multiple and complex needs
Come and explore how services can be better co-ordinated for people with multiple and complex needs [4th July, Bournemouth, free]. This is a joint event with the VCS Criminal Justice Forum for Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset, Clinks and the Making Every Adult Matter coalition (MEAM). At the event you will hear about exciting new approaches to commissioning and co-ordinating services, network with other organisations working with people in the criminal justice system and with multiple and complex needs and learn about a new opportunity to apply for free support to join up services locally using the MEAM approach. Book your place here.
CLINKS BLOG: recovery through social enterprise
This guest blog by Charlotte Burrows at Devon-based EDP Drug & Alcohol Services, looks at how EDP have developed a ‘socially enterprising prison’ model to support prisoners’ recovery. She sets out what the challenges have been developing social enterprise in prison and gives tips for other organisations. Read the blog here.
OPPORTUNITY: Get support to join up services in your area
The Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM) coalition is looking for new areas to adopt the MEAM approach, a framework which helps design and co-ordinate services for people with multiple and complex needs. Local partnerships can apply for support which will include ‘critical friend’ support, a programme-wide evaluation assisting the local business case for intervention and opportunities for shared learning. To discuss this opportunity in the South West, contact Isabel Livingstone on Isabel.livingstone@meam.org.uk. Read more and apply here.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: National probation service
After hearing that members were finding it challenging to make contact with the National Probation Service (NPS), Clinks has been working to identify local contacts for the voluntary sector, and establish how voluntary organisations can be added to the NPS’s internal service directory to assist with referrals. If you would like to find out more about how to engage with the NPS and your local contacts, please email Isabel.livingstone@clinks.org. For further information on probation services in the South West, read this blog.
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: Behavioural insights and service design
Seemingly inconsequential adaptations to the design and implementation of public services can lead to big impacts on behaviour, often at low cost. At this Academy for Social Justice Commissioning seminar [6th July, Bristol, free], Sophie Davis and Evie Monnington-Taylor from the government’s Behavioural Insights Team will introduce ‘behavioural insights’and talk through examples of where their approaches to public service design led to improved outcomes…and where they didn’t. Book your place here.
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: diverting young people from crime
This lunchtime seminar [8th July, Stroud, free] from Positive Justice Gloucestershire will discuss how to divert young people from crime. Speakers include local police project Great Expectations and a magistrate. Download the flyer here.
