It pulls together text, poems and pictures all asking the question: ‘what do those at risk of offending, prisoners and ex-offenders need to learn?’ Contributors include current and former prisoners; criminal justice practitioners; educators and academics; as well as writers from the voluntary and arts worlds including theatre director Phyllida Lloyd CBE, lyricist Sir Richard Stilgoe and sculptor Sir Antony Gormley. Each piece on display has been selected from the 2017 Koestler Awards, an arts award scheme for prisoners, and has been made by an entrant aged under-18. Find out more here Key Change25th November - 10th December | Online | FreeOpen Clasp theatre company is streaming its Key Change play online from 25th November until 10th December to mark the International Day to End Violence Against Women and Girls. Devised with women in HMP Low Newton, UK and originally toured to male prisons, Key Change is a portrayal of the real lives of women in prison. The NCJAA will be hosting a screening. Find out more here Injustice: a film“A film that all the British public should see if they are to understand what our prisons system currently is.” Injustice is a documentary made by former prisoner, Unsound Robin, which investigates the problems in the criminal justice system. By exploring life in prison, punishment and rehabilitation, social failings, and the perception of criminals; Injustice asks what are prisons supposed to do and what do they actually do. Upcoming screenings Make it RightA short film that follows the MakeRight project - an award-winning initiative designing and making anti-theft bags with prisoners - was on the shortlist for the Inspiration Award at the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s Research in Film Awards 2017, held at BAFTA. Make it Right, by Lotje Sodderland, demonstrates the impact design education has on the participants. Watch the film here Arts contribute £8.5bn to economyNew analysis shows the arts and culture industry has grown by 10% in just a year. Figures from Cebr and Arts Council England (ACE) show that the industry now contributes £8.5bn to the UK economy - more than double that of the Premier League - and is growing at five times faster than the UK economy as a whole. Nicholas Serota, Chair of ACE, has praised the "leading role" arts and culture have played in rejuvenating towns and cities across England. Read the reports here Lucy Perman wins Lifetime Achievement AwardThe annual Criminal Justice Alliance Awards acknowledge organisations or individuals who've helped transform the criminal justice pathway or perceptions of it. This year Lucy Perman was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Lucy has been the Executive Director of Clean Break since 1997, a company that uses theatre to provide support to women caught up in the criminal justice system. It provides a summary of the Lammy Review’s main findings and recommendations, and provides commentary and analysis on the potential outcomes of these. It also highlights areas in which the voluntary sector can play a key role.
