Arts have the power to transform lives, reduce crime, challenge stereotypes and enhance culture for all. So, how can arts and creativity further support children and young people (up to the age of 25) in contact with the criminal justice system?
The National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance's 2019 annual conference aims to answer this question throughout a day of workshops, performances, panel discussions and speeches. We are pleased to announce the following speakers:
- (Video message) input from Edward Argar MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice
- Neal Hazel, Youth Justice Board
- Arts Council England representative
- Lynnette Kelly, West Midlands Assistant Police and Crime Commissioner
- Martin Stephenson, Chief Executive, Unitas.
Workshops from arts organisations, youth offending teams and researchers will explore how the arts can address adverse childhood experiences and the disproportionate representation of young black, Asian and minority ethnic people in criminal justice settings, as well as looking at role model opportunities for young people.
