Stockport Housing Offender Service (Stockport Homes)
Stockport Homes has delivered the Stockport Housing Offender Service (SHOS) since 2009. The work is integrated to achieve complimentary outcomes for agencies including Probation, Spotlight, Supporting People, Prisons, Youth Offending Team and the Problem Solving Court.
SHOS has a dedicated Housing Officer and typically deals with 30 offenders per month, providing advice on both maintaining existing and securing new accommodation. This includes visiting those on remand to prevent them losing their homes, and to prisoners to plan their move-on. The Officer also undertakes homelessness assessments and accesses Temporary Accommodation where required.
SHOS undertakes regular surgeries at Probation and HMP Forest Bank. Recently, the service has begun outreach to Stockport Women’s Centre, where it deals with female offenders. In addition to these responsibilities the service also supports clients in the community such as:
• Temporary Accommodation;
• Approved premises;
• Clients’ homes
