User Voice was created for and by people who have been in prison and on probation. Lived experience means we engage empathetically instead of sympathetically.
Lived experience is the core of what we do. It’s not a token it’s a benefit. 80% of our team have lived experience. That’s from our founder and CEO, in our SLT and across our engagement team. All our volunteers have lived experience and we make sure that their progression, through and outside of User Voice, is just one of the ways we all benefit from their contribution.
We exist to reduce offending and support rehabilitation by working with the most marginalised people in and around the criminal justice system to ensure that practitioners and policy-makers hear their voices.
