Prison Reform Trust

The Prison Reform Trust (PRT) is an independent charity working to create a fair, humane and effective justice system. Founded in 1981, we work to achieve positive change for people in prison and across the wider criminal justice system.

Our work focuses on reducing the unnecessary use of prison, improving conditions for people in custody, and promoting equality and human rights throughout the justice system. We do this through research and investigation, providing information to people in prison, professionals and the public, and influencing Parliament, government and officials to drive reform.

We work closely with the prison service and government departments while maintaining our independence, including by not accepting government funding.
