How We Support People in the Criminal Justice System:
A "Soft" Entry Point to Rehabilitation: We provide a non-judgmental, community-based environment for those not yet ready for the formal structure of a college. For someone transitioning out of the justice system, our Hub offers a safe space to regain routine without the pressure of a traditional classroom.
Specialist Recovery Support: We host weekly wellbeing groups in partnership with Broadway Lodge specifically to help participants strengthen their recovery, improve mental health, and be empowered to lead healthy lives. By stabilizing their recovery, we reduce the risk of relapse and subsequent reoffending.
Integrating Peer Support: Every evening, our space is utilized for AA, NA, CA, and SMART meetings. This ensures that the individuals we help during the day with digital skills are also supported by a peer community at night, creating a holistic 24/7 support cycle.
Breaking the Digital Barrier to Reintegration: Lack of digital skills is a major "hidden" barrier for those in the justice system. We tackle this head-on:
In the first three weeks of April alone, we supported 118 people with free data (via Good Things Foundation) to help them access essential services like the NHS app and job searches.
We provide the "Functional Skills" foundation—basic IT and Office Skills—that are prerequisites for modern probation requirements and employment.
Scale of Impact: We have over 70 people per week attending our daytime groups (excluding those attending evening meetings). This high volume of engagement demonstrates our role as a trusted community hub for vulnerable residents in Weston-super-Mare.
Referral & Partnership: We work as a transition point. While we refer clients to college once they are ready, we recognize that the "gap" between leaving the justice system and entering formal education is where most people fall through the cracks. We fill that gap by providing the "softer" skills (Wellbeing, Basic IT, Driving Theory) that build the confidence necessary for long-term success.
