SWIM’s programme for Older Black Men is Prepare, Adjust, Contribute & Thrive (PACT).
This programme of in-reach work and community-based culturally competent psychosocial interventions prepares
ex-offenders and/or substance misusers from Caribbean and African backgrounds to lead
more stable lives by delivering culturally sensitive interventions.
The PACT programme equips these men to:
❖ Prepare for reintegration into our community before and after their release
❖ Adjust to life outside by stabilising their housing, family relationships and substance
misuse and by addressing their triggers to reoffending
❖ Contribute through voluntary work to increase their self-esteem and build social capital
❖ Thrive by securing paid work to sustain stable, law-abiding lives
Themes: race, culture, faith, family and intergenerational influence
As a programme designed for Older Black Men, the themes of race, culture, faith, family and
intergenerational influence are directly explored.
