Resources for organisations working with women in contact with the Criminal Justice System
Clinks seeks to highlight the specific and often neglected needs of women in contact with the Criminal Justice System (CJS). We work in partnership with a number of specialist women’s organisations to highlight the experiences of women and to amplify the sector’s voice to government.
Networking forums
We are hosting a series of networking forums for specialist women’s organisations, in partnership with Women’s Breakout, Women’s Resource Centre and Agenda. As well as providing networking opportunities, the meetings enable us to represent your views and experiences to government and key stakeholders. Issues raised are fed back to the Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group which Clinks chairs. You can read the notes from the last meeting here. The next meeting will take place on the 19th September in Birmingham, please click here for more information.
Case studies
We have recently published two case studies of services that support women in contact with the CJS, Anawim Women’s Centre in Birmingham and the Nelson Trust’s Women’s Centres in Gloucester and Swindon. The case studies look at the organisations' work and the impact of recent policy and funding changes on their services. The changes to probation services had left both organisations in a state of flux – Anawim Women’s Centre had turned down a contract from the Community Rehabilitation Company while the Nelson Trust were uncertain about the future of their long-running contract with the probation trust. Look out for further case studies coming soon. Download the case studies here
The Birth Charter and The Archers effect
This guest blog from Birth Companions discusses their Birth Charter, a comprehensive set of recommendations designed to improve practice for pregnant women in prison. There are around 600 pregnant women held in prisons in England and Wales, with some 100 babies born in prison every year. Read the blog here
National policy activity to improve outcomes for women in contact with the Criminal Justice System
This briefing from November 2015 outlines some of the key pieces of work being undertaken by government and the voluntary sector to ensure that women in contact with the CJS get the support they need for their distinct needs. It also provides contact details for key voluntary sector organisations working in this area. Read the briefing here (opens as PDF)
