Evidence and evaluation resources
It can be crucial for voluntary sector organisations to be able to show the impact of their work. You might need to collect evidence to show funders and commissioners how you meet their requirements, or to show donors and supporters where their money is going. Good evaluation of your work also allows you to keep improving the services you provide and make sure you’re meeting the needs of your service users.
However, collecting evidence and reporting on it correctly can be quite challenging. Fortunately, Clinks has lots of resources to help you get the most out of your evaluations. We’ve highlighted some of our newer resources here, as well as some guides covering the key basics.
Introduction to evaluation
If you’re considering conducting evaluations of your projects, this guide outlines the key things you need to know and think about. As well as practical information on how to collect evidence and report on it, there’s also a guide to terminology and advice on how to plan an evaluation.
Short guide to the Justice Data Lab
The Justice Data Lab provides free and easy access to government reoffending data that will help you understand your impact and communicate it to funders and commissioners. This briefing provides a summary of how to use it and some of the issues that need to be considered.
Measuring the impact of chaplaincy mentoring on desistance
In this new blog James Noble from New Philanthropy Capital and Matt Wall from Community Chaplaincy Association discuss how they have been measuring Community Chaplaincy Association’s impact, with opportunities for other organisations to learn from them.
Using qualitative research to assess your impact
Once you know what you’re trying to measure and why, this guide will be useful if you’re planning on doing qualitative research to get feedback on a project.
A guide to questionnaire design
Questionnaires are a great way to gather evidence, especially of a quantitative nature, and this guide covers the things you need to think about when designing one.
Evaluating the impact made by volunteers
If you work with volunteers, this report has lots of advice and ideas to measure impact. There is also an accompanying toolkit with practical, ready-to-use resources such as questionnaires and interview questions.
Clinks has a number of other resources for evidence and evaluation – on developing an evaluation strategy, on demonstrating outcomes, looking at the practicalities of research, the existing evidence you could use and how you could develop a shared framework for measuring impact.
