The report makes seven recommendations for change that we hope will improve the sector’s experience and drive improvements in probation services...
- Publish the commissioning intentions of Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) and the National Probation Service (NPS)
- Provide total transparency of supply chain partners
- Support small voluntary organisations
- Support communication and engagement with the voluntary sector
- Enable the NPS to engage with the voluntary sector
- Closely monitor and assess the quality of services
- Support the sustainability of rehabilitation and resettlement services
We would like to thank the 151 organisations that responded to our survey, the 90+ attendees at our consultation event, and the countless emails and phone calls that have helped us to understand the reality ‘on the ground’. The recommendations made in this report will structure Clinks’ future work with the Ministry of Justice, National Offender Management Service, CRCs and the NPS.
We know that the voluntary sector plays a vital role in providing the skills, expertise and knowledge to support people’s desistance from crime; and we will continue to advocate for the sector’s involvement in improving services available to people on release from prison and in the community.
