CLINKS SURVEY: financial resilience
How can we best support your fundraising and income generation? Our most recent state of the sector survey demonstrated that the voluntary sector in criminal justice is more dependent on grants than the sector as a whole. At a time when grants are declining, how can we support you to continue your valuable work? Do generic funding support organisations meet your needs, or would you benefit from more specialist support? Would you like to know more about loans for the voluntary sector? Our research demonstrates a lower take up of social investment in our sector and we want to find out why. Help us to help you by please giving us five minutes and completing our survey here
CLINKS TRAINING: working and volunteering in prison
This is the last chance to book the Taunton location of this one day course 'Working and volunteering in prison' [14th August, Taunton | *new date* 11th October, Birmingham | from £75]. We are running a special offer where you can now book two tickets for the price of one. The course aims to raise awareness of the prison environment and enable voluntary sector staff and volunteers to have meaningful and professional engagement with prisons, in their shared care of those in custody. It will cover: discussion on why you want to work in a prison and any worries you might have, an introduction to the criminal justice system, prison environment and population, reducing reoffending, safe and responsible working and what to expect in your first month. All bookings must be received by midday Thursday 10th August. Find out more and book here
CLINKS EVENT: prison networking
The Clinks Good Prison project is holding a networking event [31st August, HMP Exeter, free] for all of the agencies working with prisoners and ex-prisoners in or out of the prison. It will be a chance to find out about how the Pathfinder prison project is progressing and how the new Offender Management model is embedding into the prison. You will be able to problem solve with other agencies and have a space to talk about what is current in your service. Email Amanda Sherriff who is delivering the Clinks Good Prison project, Amanda.Sherriff@hmps.gsi.gov.uk if you wish to attend.
CLINKS EVENT: for prisoners
The Clinks Good Prison Project is holding a full-day 'Outside-in' event for prisoners and voluntary organisations in HMP Dartmoor [7th September, HMP Dartmoor, free] where voluntary organisations are invited to have stalls and talk to prisoners about the services they offer. The event includes lunch, a tour of the prison and a visit from the Governor. The feedback following the last event, which 80% of the prison population attended, was phenomenal with one prisoner citing the event as “the most useful thing anyone has ever done for me in custody.” Email Amanda.Sherriff@hmps.gsi.gov.uk if you wish to attend.
CLINKS MEMBERS TRAINING: children of people with convictions
Barnardo’s are delivering training events across the South West to raise awareness of the impact of family member offending on children [6th September, HMP Bristol | 12th September, HMP Oakwood | 18th September, HMP Erlestoke | 20th September, HMP Portland | £45]. The Hidden Sentence training course provides practitioners with the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of a child visiting a family member in prison and is delivered at: HMP Bristol, HMP Erlestoke, HMP Dartmoor and HMP Portland. Find out more and book your place here
