Clinks consultation event: the experience of black, Asian and minority ethnic children and young people in the justice system
2nd September, London | free
What are the experiences of black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) people in the youth justice system and secure estate, and what progress has been made in implementing the recommendations of the Lammy Review?
The Justice Committee has recently launched a major inquiry into children and young people in custody. Clinks, in partnership with EQUAL and the Barrow Cadbury Trust are responding to this inquiry, specifically on the overrepresentation and experience of BAME children and young people in custody.
Clinks wants to make sure that BAME-led organisations and those working with BAME children are able to inform our response. We are holding a consultation event to enable these organisations to have their voices heard by policy makers.
The consultation will also discuss what progress the government has made in reforming the youth justice system and implementing the recommendations of the Taylor review, and whether the secure estate is a fit and proper place to hold children and young people.
