The policy landscape can change rapidly, making it difficult to keep abreast of everything that is taking place. In recognition of this and to provide increased support to our Members, we will send out this briefing approximately once a month. Women
A call to end violence against women and girls: Action Plan 2013: The report highlights the Government’s progress with the Action Plan since March 2012 and outlines how the strategy will be taken forward. Over the next year, the Government will work to integrate its strategy on violence against women and girls into wider Government reforms, and continue to focus on prevention and early intervention. It will provide increased support for under-represented women and girls, measure outcomes and undertake an end-to-end approach to sexual violence and sexual exploitation.
Strategic objectives for female offenders: Published by the Ministry of Justice, this report outlines the government’s strategic priorities relating to female offenders. The document highlights that an Advisory Board for female offenders will be created and chaired by Helen Grant, Equalities Minister.
The development and impact of community services for women offenders: An evaluation: This evaluation report examined six services developed in third sector partnerships for women offenders in the community. Carried out by the Institute for Criminal Policy Research (ICPR), the evaluation was designed to capture best practice in services known to be at risk of funding cuts and took place between 2011/2012.

Justice Committee Youth Justice report
Young Prisoners- needs and interventions: The Youth Justice Board commissioned the Institute for Criminal Policy Research (ICPR), Birkbeck University of London and Ipsos MORI to provide an in-depth examination of the identified needs of children and young people in the secure estate and the interventions they received.
Boys to men: Phase one key findings: Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, the research explores why some boys become domestic abuse perpetrators when others do not.
Voluntary and Community Sector
Money for Good UK: Understanding donor motivation and behaviour: New Philanthropy Capital (NPC) have conducted the largest ever UK study into donor motivation.

New advocacy service contracts awarded to Barnardo’s: The Youth Justice Board has confirmed that Barnardo’s has successfully won contracts in the North and South regions to provide advocacy services for young people in Secure Training Centres and under-18 Young Offender Institutions.
The Mental Health (Discrimination) Act 2013 given Royal assent: The Act has ended the ban on people with serious mental health problems from undertaking public positions including MPs, company directors and jury members.
