The purpose of the role is to meet the needs of our membership and lead on our events. We are seeking a dynamic individual with excellent attention to detail to lead on delivering our busy programme of events; sourcing and managing relationships with training and event partners and evaluating the impact and effectiveness of our training and events offer. The role requires someone with experience in organising events who is confident working on their own initiative as well as collaboratively. Find out more here
CLINKS VACANCY: Treasurer

With the other trustees, you will help lead the organisation and build on the solid foundations of our existing work. You will bring financial/accountancy and human resources skills and knowledge to assist our staff and trustees and help ensure Clinks’ continuing financial resilience and compliance with legal and procedural requirements as well as ensuring the organisation is well managed. Find out more and apply here
CLINKS TRAINING: working and volunteering in prison

The course combines theory, individual reflection and practical guidance on working in prison and with prisoners. Find out more and book here
CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: prisoner re-integration
Prison Reform Trust has announced the launch of the Robin Corbett Award for Prisoner Re-integration, which celebrates outstanding rehabilitative work with prisoners done by a charity or community group. Dominique Airey, Chief Executive of Khulisa (Winner 2018) says “I can't encourage you more to apply - this award has been game-changing for Khulisa. It's added real profile and credibility to our work (helping us to unlock other new funding) alongside the unrestricted £5k prize money itself.” Nominations are invited from prison governors, directors and senior management, with the emphasis on work that fosters personal responsibility and calls on people in prison, and people with convictions, to help others through mentoring and similar work. The closing date for nominations is 7th December. Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: barriers for black, Asian and minority ethnic people
Are you from a black, Asian or minority ethnic (BAME) background and have a criminal record? Unlock wants to hear from you. It is collecting evidence that will help it to better understand the barriers that BAME people face because of their criminal record. The focus is mainly on the issues that people face after they’ve received their criminal record. However, it is also keen to identify any issues that BAME people might face earlier on in the process of getting a criminal record that have an impact later. Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: Criminal Justice Alliance Awards
Congratulations to the winners of the 2018 Criminal Justice Alliance Awards. Some of our members received an award, they were: Outstanding Organisation of the Year - The Zahid Mubarek Trust, for "establishing an authentic voice in an area where such indifference and marginalisation are faced"; Outstanding Organisation Runner-Up - Revolving Doors Agency, for creating a "clear new model of delivery with excellent evidence of impact"; Outstanding Individual of the Year - Marie-Claire O'Brien, Founder of the New Leaf Initiative, described as "standing out for her leadership, entrepreneurship and impact"; and Lifetime Achievement Award - Martine Lignon, Chair of Prisoners' Advice Service and Trustee for Women in Prison, for her "knowledge, wisdom, charm and drive in campaigning for a fairer and more effective criminal justice system". CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: strengthening probation, building confidence
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) will be holding a series of market engagement events as part of 'Strengthening probation, building confidence' on commercial strategy, transition, estates and IT [11th, 12th, 13th December, London, free] to consult various stakeholders on a number of issues. These include approaches to contracting providers of probation services in England (currently Community Rehabilitation Companies), the MoJ approach to commissioning services, how services will transition from their current state to a new state by 2021, estates and future thinking about IT requirements. The MoJ’s probation programme will be confirming the venue details and agenda in due course but ask that stakeholders save the date. Any questions about stakeholder engagement can be directed to the Probation Programme’s stakeholder manager: Nathan.dick@justice.gov.uk
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: prison education
The Ministry of Justice's ongoing selection stage of the Prison Education Dynamic Purchasing System (PEDPS) has been launched meaning providers can once again apply to participate. It is specifically designed to enable governors to secure specialist or one-off education provision to meet short-term needs and help create and grown relationships with local employers and educators - ultimately helping learners to secure employment on release. If you are interested in applying you can visit the portal and search for PQQ_139.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: HMIP survey
Every year HM Inspectorate of Prisons conducts a survey of its stakeholders. The 2018 survey is now live. It has been a busy year for the inspectorate, and it would welcome feedback on its work. Take the survey here
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: young people on supervision
The probation inspectorate team has published the third in its series of research bulletins. This bulletin focuses on the views of 14,542 children and young people supervised by Youth Offending Teams (YOTs) between April 2014 and March 2017 who responded to HMI Probation’s eSurvey. It finds that most children and young people were positive about working with their YOT, reporting that their views had been taken seriously (96%), that they had been treated fairly (95%), and that the service had been good (95%). OPPORTUNITY: free leadership development
The Kings Fund's Cascading Leadership programme is open for applications. The programme is aimed at leaders from all health and wellbeing charities, from small start-ups or support groups to major national organisations. This year, the fund is particularly keen to support smaller and newer charities. The deadline for applications is 30th November. Find out more here
OPPORTUNITY: mentoring for future female leaders
There are only three weeks left to apply for ACEVO's Jane Slowey memorial membership programme. It will provide expert support, guidance, advice and mentoring for women who are aspiring CEOs, or are in their first two years as a CEO for a charity or social enterprise. It is encouraging applications from women from black and Asian backgrounds and/or who have a disability. ACEVO’s aim is to help create diverse leadership within the sector, so it wants to reach out beyond the ACEVO community. Do you know any women leaders that could benefit from expert support, guidance, advice and mentoring? Find out more here
