CLINKS NEWS: Farmer Review call for evidence
The deadline to submit evidence to the Farmer Review was Wednesday 7th November. However, due to a technical issue with our new website we know that some of you were unable to find the information. If you have evidence that you were unable to submit you can still do so until 14th November via our surveymonkey link, or by email to farmerreview@clinks.org
CLINKS PUBLICATION: creating change together
Creating change together is our strategy for 2019-2022. People in the criminal justice system and their families still face huge challenges in getting the support they need to have the futures they deserve. The voluntary sector’s role could not be more important as it is presently. This strategy outlines our strategic objectives, our goals for 2022, how we'll work over the next three years, and the changes we want to see in the criminal justice system. Read more here
CLINKS PUBLICATION: annual review
We have published our 2017-2018 Annual review. It gives a summary of our work over the previous financial year. In 2017-18 our growing reach has meant we’ve been able to spread opportunities, share good practice and the latest news in the criminal justice system further and wider than ever before. We’ve continued to evolve and adapt to meet the changing needs of our members. Read the annual review here
CLINKS EVENT: the state of the sector
We are launching our State of the sector report at an afternoon event [29th November, London, free]. Clinks has been collecting information about how voluntary organisations working in criminal justice are faring for the last six years. Again this year, our research has highlighted the sector’s many successes, as well as uncovering some of the significant challenges organisations face. We’ve included an additional thematic focus to our 2018 research exploring how organisations are recognising and responding to the particular needs and vulnerabilities of people protected under the Equalities Act (2010). Join us to hear the findings and discuss how they impact you and the sector. Book your place here
CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: broken trust
User Voice has published a report entitled Nitty drugs and broken trust. The report looks into how professionals and vulnerable children and young people can work better together to improve care and support and help build trust. It aims to improve ways of working with children and young people in the secure estate. The report finds around three-quarters don’t trust any professionals, mostly due to a lack of confidentiality and transparency. Download the report here (PDF)
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: prison pilots for rough sleeping strategy
The Ministry of Justice has announced three prisons are to pilot a new programme announced in the rough sleeping strategy. £6 million funding has been committed for pilots at HMPs Leeds, Pentonville and Bristol to take a partnership approach between prisons, local authorities, probation and the voluntary sector to provide wrap-around support. This will include support with benefit applications, rental deposits and housing benefit top-ups so that accommodation can be ready on release. The pilots will have dedicated keyworkers and specific funding to provide stable accommodation for up to two years. Find out more here
FUNDING: empowering young women into work
Grants are available from the Berkeley Foundation for voluntary sector organisations to support marginalised and disadvantaged young women aged 16-30 years to access decent and sustainable employment in Greater London, Birmingham, Warwickshire, and the South of England. The Foundation is seeking proposals from voluntary sector organisations providing targeted support for young women who are unemployed and for whom there is limited existing provision. The deadline for applications is 30th November. Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: young people tackling violence
Khulisa is holding an open-mic night [13th November, London, free]. Young people will take to the stage and share their views on what needs to be done to make our society a safer, less violent place to live. The young people will be inviting their peers to share their views on what needs to be done to stop the rise in youth violence in London. Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: vulnerable service users
Commons is holding ‘How to help your vulnerable service users in the criminal justice system’ [22nd November, London, free]. The breakfast event aims to train voluntary organisations whose service users may be at higher risk of entering the criminal justice system. Leading experts in the field will give insight into how criminal investigations and trials work in relation to vulnerable people and youths. This event aims to equip you with the latest knowledge and contacts if or when the people your organisation is helping come into contact with the police, courts and Crown Prosecution Service. Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: festive music
Prisoners’ Education Trust (PET) is hosting a Christmas carol concert [28th November, Covent Garden, free]. The event is supported by Phoenix Equity Partners. It will feature an array of Christmas carols, sung by London Choir, Fever Pitch, and presentations from former prisoner learners and PET President, His Honour John Samuels QC. Register by emailing: events@prisonerseducation.org.uk
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: women’s homelessness conference
Homeless Link is holding a ‘Women’s Homelessness Conference [3rd December, London, from £190] which aims to bring together the sectors and agencies who have the power to change outcomes for women experiencing homelessness. Through their leadership and action it wants to change responses to women who far too often fall through the gaps in provision and are left in a destructive cycle of homelessness and trauma.
