CLINKS NEWS: civil society
Civil Society has published an article in which Clinks CEO Anne Fox discusses Transforming Rehabilitation's (TR) impact on the voluntary sector working in criminal justice. The article is ahead of Clinks' forthcoming report on TR and focuses on the negative financial impact on charities, especially that charities are funding themselves out of their own reserves, and the difficulties of the rate card. CLINKS EVENT: where next for the voluntary sector in criminal justice?
Clinks needs your help. We are holding a roadshow of Where Next? workshops around the country [20th April, Cardiff | 23rd April, London | 27th April, Birmingham | 1st May, Manchester | 3rd May, Durham | 11th May, Exeter | free], to identify priorities for future developments in criminal justice. Please join us at the workshop in your region, to hear our thinking and tell us your experience and views. What are the needs or issues that you see emerging from your work? What hopes and ideas do you have for change? What might Clinks be able to do to help you or to represent your experience to government or to funders? The findings will feed into Clinks' strategy and activities programme for 2019-21. Clinks is your organisation. Your expertise is vital for us to continue working towards our vision of a vibrant, independent and resilient voluntary sector that enables people to transform their lives. Places are limited, so advance booking is advised. Find out more and book here
CLINKS PARTNER’S NEWS: young adults
The Transition to Adulthood Alliance and the Centre for Justice Innovation has published a report entitled ‘A fairer way: procedural fairness for young adults at court’ which sets out a blueprint for a new approach to 18-25 year olds in court, developed over the last two years by criminal justice practitioners in five areas of England and Wales as well as young adults themselves. The adapted court model draws upon scientific international research that has shown young adults’ brain development and maturity makes them a group distinct from both children and from fully mature adults. The proposed changes are based on ‘procedural fairness’ evidence that suggests a more understandable and fairer court process is likely to increase young adults’ compliance with court orders and reduce young adults’ likelihood of committing further offences. Read the report here
