We are delighted to welcome two new Trustees to the board, Christopher Stacey from Unlock and Raheel Mohammed from Maslaha. They have the experience and knowledge to match our need, and the skill to take Clinks and the voluntary sector working in criminal justice forward. We look forward to working with them.
CLINKS VACANCY: reducing reoffending
Clinks is recruiting a senior expert from the voluntary sector to join the Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3). The group meet quarterly with the purpose of building a strong and effective partnership between the voluntary sector and the Ministry of Justice, and providing expertise in relation to policy developments. This position is for someone with experience of delivering services in Wales. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 5th February. Find out more and apply here
CLINKS EVENT: HMPPS grant funding- extra event

Voluntary organisations can find out more about the HMPPS grant funding programme for 2018-2020. Clinks and HMPPS are holding these information events for organisations who may wish to apply for funding from the programme. The programme will aim to enable the voluntary sector to contribute to better outcomes for offenders in public sector prisons, the National Probation Service and youth custody services. CLINKS PARTNER'S NEWS: who can run a charity?
Changes to the ‘automatic disqualification’ rules which affect who can run a charity, and particularly people with criminal records, will come into force on 1st August 2018. Clinks is working with Unlock to help people involved in charities to work out if they’re affected and what to do if they are, and support organisations to update their recruitment processes to reflect the changes to the rules. The current rules only apply to trustees. People with unspent convictions for certain offences, including dishonesty and deception offences, need to be granted a waiver from the Charity Commission before they can be a trustee. From 1st August more offences will be covered, including people on the sex offenders register; and more roles will be covered, including senior manager positions such as chief executives and chief finance officers. Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: astronomy from prison
Bounce Back is working with the Royal Astronomical Society to develop a project called 'See beyond the prison walls' which aims to engage prisoners in astronomy and other science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects. The aim of the project is to stimulate interest in astronomy, whilst helping prisoners see beyond the prison walls and their current circumstances. It will facilitate an environment that encourages prisoners to think about their place in the universe to help them re-evaluate their priorities and alter their mindset. Aspects of mindfulness will underpin the project activities, and participants will learn to think differently about life. Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: peaceful prisons
Leap Confronting Conflict has published a blog exploring how the Quaker commitment to peace still runs through their work over 30 years later, especially in their Peaceful Prisons Project. Leap was founded by The Leaveners in 1987. Abigail Darton, who leads on some of Leap's projects in prisons, discusses how their history continues to influence their grassroots work today.
