CLINKS REPONSE: prison population
Clinks has submitted evidence to the Justice Committee inquiry into the prison population. We welcomed this inquiry, and used our extensive prison focused work and evidence gathered from our members to respond. Our response focuses on the impact that the make up and size of the prison population has on safe and effectively managed prisons, with a particular emphasis on the implications for voluntary sector organisations working in prisons and their ability to deliver effective rehabilitation and resettlement services. Read the response here
CLINKS BLOGS: social investment and the voluntary sector
These two blogs are part of a series in which we investigate and review Social Impact Bonds (SIBs). The blogs look at SIBs from two very different perspectives. In the first blog, Peter Kelly, Business Development Director at Charity Bank, discusses what loan finance can offer organisations and introduces key factors that lenders look for when considering a loan application. In the second blog. Laura Seebohm, Director of Operations at Changing Lives, discusses whether the value of social impact bonds outweighs the negatives. Read the blogs here
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: preventing suicide in homeless people
Homeless Link has produced suicide prevention guidance which looks at the role of homeless services in supporting well-being and preventing suicide. The guidance focuses on how managers can incorporate suicide prevention into the planning and delivery of services and how to offer support to people using services, as well as the staff and volunteers working with them. CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: education in prison
Prisoners Education Trust (PET) has a short animation showing the positive impact of education inside. The film was produced and recorded in the Families Wing of HMP Parc, Bridgend. In a three-day workshop to produce the film, fathers and their children had the chance to tell to each other what they were learning about. Clare Lloyd, head of PET’s Welsh Prison's Project, says: “We know families can be an incredibly powerful force in someone making positive change that enable them to stay out of prison. The purpose of the animation is to demonstrate the positive impact further and higher education can have on families.” Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: tackling radicalisation
Odd Arts has written a blog about attending the 'Manchester and Boston Radical Exchange: Shared approaches to tackling radicalisation and extremism'. A U.S. Embassy exchange between Manchester and Boston on ‘countering violent extremism', Odd Arts were invited to attend as a result of their theatre and art work that is intended to challenge attitudes and behaviours, increase opportunities, reduce people’s risk and increase community cohesion, all of which can be useful in preventing radicalisation by providing individuals with emotional tools and support.
