CLINKS NEWS: annual review
Our 2016-2017 annual review has been published as an interactive web page. It explores the three areas of our work: strengthening your voice, putting a spotlight on priority groups, and pioneering new approaches. During 2016-17 Clinks has supported its members to rise to the challenges in our criminal justice system in the face of change and uncertainty. Voluntary organisations working in criminal justice are finding solutions, embracing change and bouncing back in the face of adversity. Our annual review also includes short interviews with our staff and members where they give their views on what 'resilience' means to them. Read our latest annual review online here
CLINKS RESPONSE: Homelessness Reduction Act
Clinks will be responding to a Department for Communities and Local Government consultation on guidance for local authorities around The Homelessness Reduction Act which comes into force in April 2018 - we would like to hear from you if you would like to feed in any information. The Act will include new duties on local authorities to intervene at earlier stages to prevent homelessness in their areas. The consultation is on the guidance for local authorities which will inform them how they should exercise their homelessness functions and apply the legislation in practice. To feed in information, please contact Nicola Drinkwater at Nicola.drinkwater@clinks.org.
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: understanding the whole family
Revolving Doors has published 'Understanding the whole family', the third in a series of literature reviews on severe and multiple disadvantage. It takes a life course approach, exploring the role of the family from prevention to treatment and intervention, through to recovery and desistance. The review shows that families have multiple and often conflicting roles in relation to people facing severe and multiple disadvantage; and therefore examines the strengths and protective factors as well as the barriers or problems within families. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: award entries closing soon
Prison Reform Trust is still accepting entries for the Robin Corbett Award for Prisoner Re-integration (formerly rehabilitation), which celebrates outstanding rehabilitative work with prisoners done by a charity or community group. The top prize has been increased this year to £5000. Nominations are invited from prison governors and directors, with the emphasis on work that fosters personal responsibility and calls on people in prison, and ex-offenders, to help others through mentoring and similar. The closing date for nominations is 1st December. Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: supporting defendants
Nepacs has launched a service providing support to defendants and their families and friends at Newcastle Crown Court. The project provides support and information to families or friends who attend court to support a loved one facing a custodial sentence. Volunteers offer emotional and practical support and information, and continued support outside of court through a telephone support service. Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: young men leaving prison
Switchback has released a short film about their work mentoring and training young men leaving prisons. The film looks at Switchback's work training the men to work in the Crisis cafe, and features some of the young men who they have supported to begin a new life. Watch the video here
